Remember when Cakewalk used to come to your area to demo their products? What happened?

I used to receive emails from Cakewalk when they were coming to the Pennsylvania area or the New Jersey area to demo Sonar and other Softsynths.  That's how I became to know and love Project 5.  I was already a Sonar user at that time but after the demo,  I bought Project 5v2 on the spot and Z3ta along with it.   I would attend the Guitar Center Pa sessions and then drive to NJ the next day to attend the one over there at Guitar Center too.

Whatever happened to these visits?  I would like to be able to attend these sessions again if possible.  Cakewalk, is there any plan on ever doing this again, or has the company grown too big to the folks who use the products as you did when you were just Twelve Tones.

Peace,
Jesse G. A fisher of men  <><

They started allocating more resources to fixing bugs and thus produced a far more dependable Sonar than it was back then?

They were in Australia Last year I think. I wasn't able to get to it. The event was co-sponsored with a local Retailer in Sydney and Melbourne. If they're coming to Australia they must be going around the U-States.

I remember getting Sonar XL 2 at cost (99.00 $ I think ?) at one of these demos.  (at Mars music !!)

That got me on the yearly upgrade train.  Also showed me lots of cool tricks.

    I really enjoyed them.

I suspect the internet has a bit to do with it.

A lot easier, not to mention cost effective, nowadays to go to one place, say, NAMM, and then put up a bunch of videos.

While it's no substitute for the old-school, meet & greet type of demonstrations, one can certainly see why, from a business perspective, they might be phased out in favor of internet-based show and tell.

I think a good compromise would be to have regular webinars, where viewers worldwide can participate with questions and comments.

All excellent points, to which I would add...

People stopped coming to in-store clinics. Back when I did these kinds of workshops it was rare to have fewer than 50 people show up, 80-120 was the average, and some places did a lot more - Nashville could pull a couple hundred people easily, and my personal record was 300+ in San Antonio. I once did a 50-city tour for Panasonic spread over five countries...good times  Secondary markets (Columbus, Atlanta, Seattle, Dallas, etc.) were always the hottest.

These days, clinicians get excited if 20-30 people show up. It can be cost-effective to send someone to talk to 100 people, but not to talk to 20.

Bandlab Platinum and every other toy I can get my hands on...and yes I'm way in debt over this obsession...

I would travel to MA to see Sonar taught in action, as long as I was picked up from the airport in a Limo and given free lunch, dinner and breakfast the next day before I left town.   Oh, and I can't forget to receive my Free Cakewalk Coffee Mug!!

    Peace,

We'd love to do more in-person demos but the landscape has definitely changed. Stores aren't doing it as much and people can get so much information on the interwebs. So we focused resources on other areas including making SONAR faster, better, and easier to use.

Dallas was always packed.  Come on back, y'all, and I'll take you for some real TexMex.  Only San Antonio has as good.

The economy dive bombed, margins went very slim, wifi was well, ok then.

Now they can do their dog and pony shows on the internet for cheaper. And everyone is expected to be able to stream. - plus ya can't bug a video with your silly questions all the time. :-)
