Re-mix: Can't Get You Out Of My Head
I wrote this song after I ran in to a past girl friend of mine. The lyrics are real. Please check it out. I'm really trying to step it up in every way. Check it out @ http://www.reverbnation.com/play_now/song_6494374 Merry Christmas every one!

I'm not a great person or musician, but I would like to give it a try on every song you have done to this point on lead guitar. I think I might be fair, who knows. Give me a shot and we shall see. It's been said a zillion times but you are the 60s sound. It's uncanny, it really is. The vibe, the arrangements, are spot on. You would have made a fortune at the Sound Factory and the Wall of Sound days. You could be Neil Sedaka, and I mean that as a compliment. Aside from Neil's total commercialism, he's a darn good musician and songwriter. I would back off on the reverb a tad on the vocals, my only suggestion. Great piano as always. Daryl

Hi Terry, The mix you have sounds very good to my ears. The problem to my ears is with the arrangement in that the strings are a little sappy in this lyrical context (and unnecessary IMO)....things are drawn out that don't merit it. I would have raved it up a bit and made it more up instead of a lament. Are you lamenting not getting her out of your head? I'm not sure because of a clash of arrangement or maybe the vocal delivery...sorry to be so vague but i'll give another listen to see if i can nail it down.

Daryl I take it, that you mean the reverb on the vocals. Is that right?

Hi Terry, Had a couple more listens. Mix does (still) sound very good to me. The string thing is all good. I had a different take on the lyric first time. It struck me more as a pleasure than a lament but this time i hear the lament in the lyric and the warm strings do fit. I think the reverb is okay considering it's retro feel.

Thanks No How, I think I'm gonna take some of that reverb off. I've never been big on reverb, til about 3 years ago I was being requested to put some on. I think I may have been putting to much on at times Cheers

First blush is, vocals seem slightly overdriven (maybe that's what you're going for?) but very present. Lyrics are wordy, to the extent that I can't seem to process the meaning. There's no real turn of phrase I can hold on to as, "oh that's interesting" except for the 'can't get you out of my head but I admit I haven't been trying'. The music is a good mix I think. My only critique is that it's all right in your face. You know? Like, nothing is an accent that makes me strain to listen for. It's all just right out in front. Overall, I agree with other commenters. It's got that 60's, brit feel. One thing I thought would have really helped solidify that is if the mix had some room to breathe. Maybe bring the volume of the vocals down 3db and put a little more reverb on the piano...give it more of a live feel. JMO.

I listened again, and I agree w/Josh, the vox are over driven and a big distorted, I noticed it more toward the end. "I wrote this song after I ran in to a past girl friend of mine. The lyrics are real. Please check it out. I'm really trying to step it up in every way. " I ran past some old girl friends the other day? (I was in my crawl space...)
