Remote Control Wireless for Transport Controlling X1

You can try to find a Frontier Design Tranzport. It's been discontinued but still works great and there should still be some for sale out there somewhere.

Or you can try to get a better keyboard. You should be able to get more than 10 feet from Bluetooth.

You should be able to use an iPad to do this. First install RTPMidi if you have not already done so on your PC. To work with the iPad you want to have iTunes installed on the PC so you get the Bonjour service to ride along. Second, you can get the iPad app MidiTouch which will allow you to turn your iPad into a midi control surface for any device at all and is easy to use. You can quickly put down controls and define what values you want to use. The iPad allows you to use midi over WiFi. Go into X1 and define whatever midi sequence you want to use to control X1 for transport control, retakes, or whatever other functions you desire. When you launch RTPMidi on your pc you will see that it can form sessions with your iPad running MidiTouch. Connect them up and you have a WiFi midi pipe.

Two caveats here. I have used this to control several instruments remotely but not X1 so I am assuming that since X1 allows you to midi map your controls it will work. The second is that the current version of MidiTouch requires you to statically define the midi channel that your template runs on. So, if you need to switch channels you need to replicate the template with the midi channel changed. They will fix this eventually but for now it is an issue to be aware of.

You got me wondering if there was a LONG RANGE RF Qwerty wireless keyboard and a search turned up IOGEAR, has a supposedly 30 foot range.  It comes with a keyboard and mouse and I found one on EBAY (new) for $50.  I might try this since I worry about using WIFI on my DAW for performance issue reasons.

But, ROLAND should come up with some type of solution for this because I know that I can't be the only ONE MAN studio out here.  Seems that this would be a HOT SELLER to me if it was a simple PLUG n PLAY solution with minimal overhead on performance.

I simply have too much SH%T in my studio to lay it out so I can get to everything from one workstation.

we had a massive disscussion about this the other day.  rtpmidi is the way to go.  but a fully functionioning virtual controller is ac7 look that up it has a transport controller built in i'm using touchdaw which has mixing transport and drum pads.  im unsure if touchdaw is avalible for ipad.  if you want to controll your whole computer i use pocketcloud.

Sorry I missed out on that thread but thanks for the heads up on AC7. Am going to give that a try. Seems like the feedback about it for use with Sonar X1 is pretty good.
