Remote control app for iPad and Sonar

Hi all,

I am looking for a stable remote control app for my iPad to control Sonar Plat. All I really need is some way to start/stop recording and playback. I just recently moved my amps into another room and I need something that I can use away from the PC.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

I use V-Control Pro which does what I need including multi-touch fader control for mixing. If all you need is basic transport controls there's a free version which can do this.

VControl uses the Mackie protocol and can appear a bit tricky to set up, but if you follow the instructions you should be able to get it working. It's certainly easier to deal with than Sonar's ACT.

    Sonar Platinum 64bit, Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit, I7 3770K Ivybridge, 16GB Ram, Gigabyte Z77-D3H m/board,
ATI 7750 graphics+ 1GB RAM, 2xIntel 520 series 220GB SSDs, 1 TB Samsung F3 + 1 TB WD HDDs, Seasonic fanless 460W psu, RME Fireface UFX, Focusrite Octopre.
Assorted real synths, guitars, mandolins, diatonic accordions, percussion, fx and other stuff.

    Hey tlw,

thanks so much for the quick reply. I think I tried that app a year or so ago and it reeked havoc on my Win 7 64 system. I had to rebuild my entire system drive to get anything to work again. I would hope that maybe it's been improved since then?

Anyway, I'll look into it and make sure it's a new and improved version.

I can't help you with an iPad app, but my yMIDI app gives you a full MCU compatible control surface along with keyboard, MIDI controllers, and trigger pads. Windows 8 tablets are incredibly inexpensive, the HP Stream is just $80.

yMIDI beta is a public beta of the next release of yMIDI. This version includes a new control surface that emulates the MCU Pro as well as many bug fixes and performance improvements.

yMIDI is a general purpose MIDI controller for controlling MIDI enabled software or hardware that supports the RTP MIDI protocol. yMIDI communicates with compatible devices over wireless or Ethernet. yMIDI works out of the box with computers running OSX and with Windows systems running rtpMIDI.

    Features
  • Standard Controls: Pitch, Mod, Volume, Pan
  • 5 custom slider controls
  • X/Y control
  • 3 octave keyboard control
  • 4x4 grid of touch enabled pads
  • Custom sliders, X/Y control and pads are configurable to any CC and channel
  • *NEW* Control surface with MCU Pro emulation
  • *NEW* Toggle mode for touch pads - Visual indicator toggles between touch events.
yMIDI beta is available from the Windows Store
