Render a LOOP repeated x amount of time?
Hi, I want to send someone a sample of what I'm busy doing. I want to send him a render of 16 bars but I want to loop it 3 times. I DON'T want to copy and paste everything just so the loop is 3 times as long as it is originally... Possible?

Slip-edit the end to create three iterations, bounce the clip to itself, then export or drag to the desktop prior to sending.

Turn it into a Groove Clip and drag it out for as long as is needed

Thanks for the input but I clearly stated that I don't want to create more than one copy/iteration... I just want to select a section of the track and have it repeated 3 times in the mixdown

Actually you said "I DON'T want to copy and paste everything just so the loop is 3 times as long as it is originally..." so none of the solutions offered above involved copy and paste. It now sounds like what you want is to place a loop within a project, and tell it to loop a certain number of times independently of any loop happening within the project itself. If I understand correctly, in your example there will be a 16 measure clip in the project that will play back and when the now time reaches the end of the clip, it will play back again, two more times, even though the now time will have moved past the clip. If the person you're sending it to is using SONAR, this is not possible within track view. It is possible within Matrix view, although you would have to stop the loop playback manually while the rest of the song kept playing.

Theoretically you could drag your clip to a matrix cell and record it from there... though it would just record to the original track I think so you'd get the same result as if you made it a groove clip and dragged out.

It's not a clip - it's the master output that I want to render between bar 16 and 32, but repeated 3 times, without messing with the track layout!

I'm still not sure I understand, but would like to help if possible. Based on your saying "I want to render bars 16 to 32 as it comes out the master channel, but it needs to be repeated 3 times," I interpret "render" as meaning you want to create an exported file. Although there are no real "language police" for audio, the usual definition of render is to mix edits "into a final, single continuous clip that can be shared, burned, uploaded or archived. Rendering is generally synonymous with compiling, saving, or exporting a file." So maybe the reason for the miscommunication is that this is not what you mean by render?

- Put a send on the Master bus to an aux track, and arm the track to record. - Loop the range you want to record. - Start recording in Comp or Sound on Sound mode, and record three takes. - Open the project audio folder, and you'll find a single audio file that's three iterations long though it's represented as three separate takes/clips in the project.

Two of three record modes accessed by right-clicking the record button in the transport module. Either will work for this. You just don't want Overwrite.

I guess it would be kinda cool to have this as an option in the dialog, though, i.e Export Entire Mix, repeat 3 times.

My $.02: I can't remember ever seeing another request for this capability, and it's so easy to bounce the Master to a track and copy-paste or roll out multiple iterations by Groove-Clip looping that I can't see taking the time to develop a dedicated export option. Also, I think most users would want to have more options to allow iterating only the middle section between intro and outro, fading the outro, etc. Without these options, I don't think the feature would be very useful. I make up preliminary arrangements like this with some regularity when I want to share an unfinished piece; it's really not that big a deal to do this using a combination of existing bounce, copy-paste and groove-clip functionality. Then just Archive the arrangement track, and keep working on the 'living' project.

Another approach ... Create an aux track by inserting a new audio track and setting the input to a new patchpoint Set the output of the new track to NONE Create a new send on Master to the new patchpoint Set punch in/out markers for the region you want to capture Rec arm the new track and enable input echo Press the transport REC button The project will play back with the region bound by punch markers being recorded to the aux track. Stop recording, unarm the new track, disable input echo and do whatever you wish with the new clip; make it a groove clip and stretch it out however many iterations you like. It's not as complicated as it looks/reads

This is the step the OP is specifically trying to avoid. If that step is acceptable, there are dozens of ways to skin this cat. Personally I would just bounce the Master bus to a new track, copy-paste the iterations, and export it. Done.

I've tried THIS ->> but I have no idea how to set it up. I cant get the sound to go to the AUX. It does not use the SEND when I tell it to create a new AUX with the + sign on the send panel brundlefly - Put a send on the Master bus to an aux track, and arm the track to record. - Loop the range you want to record. - Start recording in Comp or Sound on Sound mode, and record three takes. - Open the project audio folder, and you'll find a single audio file that's three iterations long though it's represented as three separate takes/clips in the project.
And all the other methods are completely over my head. The last time I used SONAR was SONAR X1. I'm seriously frustrated!!!!!!!!

OK, so I got the above method working but the sound quality is ATROCIOUS! not NEARLY mixdown quality!!!! Live recording is just NOT an option. I'll just have to copy and paste the ****! and mixdown. All of this needs to happen in the EXPORT dialog.. Live recording to disk does not process the sound like it should! The thing that frustrates me most is that I don't understand half the terminology flung around here

Aux recording and bounce/export will produce digitally identical output if set up correctly. It's not clear what you might have done wrong. I should have mentioned that sending from Master to a new aux track that's created with the output going to Master by default would create a loop, so SONAR will fail to create the Send in that case. I understand how all these little gotchas can be frustrating until you understand everything. Can't really be helped. But life is a lot easier if you don't insist on doing things the hard way to start with.

Thanks for trying to help. I only come to the forum if I cannot figure out something on my own or through the online manual. I make no use of live recordings in my music. Everything is VST based, so I don't focus on things like "comping", etc... The reason I have to bounce this clip 3 times, is because SONAR can't like FL Studio (which I started on) merge the delay&reverb tail over the beginning for looping purposes. For listening purposes, it just sounds terrible if you loop a single WAV and it repeats dry at the end of the phrase. Anyway, let's leave this until I know what things like "slip-editing", "punch-in/out" is (not that I might need it)
