Renewing membership with time remaining on existing one

I have a question about how membership timing works.  I bought a 12-month membership last January, so it is close to time to renew.  I'd like to take advantage of the "gobble" promotion and buy a new 12-month membership now, but only if it adds on to my existing one (as opposed to wiping out the last two months and restarting the clock immediately).  Can Cakewalk or an informed user tell me how this works?
 
I wrote to customer service to ask about this, but thought I would ask here as well as I expect others may have the same question.

    There will be a clear path for renewal/upgrades in January for people like yourself. There is no option to buy another 12 months right now.

    I wrote customer service the same question when I posted this three weeks ago and just got a response that is different from what Andrew wrote. They wrote "[the new subscription] will be added to your current subscription."
     
    So did a policy change in the past three weeks, or is there some confusion at CW (or on my end) about this?

    From what I have seen posted, all offers to date are "upgrades," not "renewals," so once that distinction was made clear it makes more sense that the two paths are not identical. However, there is not a lot of clarification about this to date. It would make sense that a renewal should be cheaper than an upgrade, but so far no information specific to renewals has been posted.

    go down to the deals sub and read THIS post
     
    there was a very small window when the upgrade was blown out and you got a registration code that WOULD qualify as an extension, BUT the mechanism is not in place to automatically extend the sub after the expiration date most have of 1/21/2016, I have a code and will sit on it till next month.

    Seeing as my expiration is on the 4th of January I hope I get more than a day to decide.
