Replacement for my Event TR-6's

Hey all

So it seems the time has finally come. My Event TR-6 Powered Monitors seem to have finally be going on me (I'm pretty sure the subwoofers are blown... the bass is sounding very distorted even though it's not distorted through other speakers, headphones, etc).

I got these... I wanna say 8 years ago but it might even be as long as 10. So it's been a while. I'm not really looking to go bigger or anything, just want to get a suitable replacement. Any suggestions on brands/models I should look at? Just want to get something at roughly the same quality. They're hooked in thru my M-Audio Ozonic interface.

Thanks

The cone might be going.  You can replace the speakers pretty cheaply, if you like the Events.  I've had my old yamaha's replaced when they started fluffing.  If that is the problem you can get the same quality speakers at a small cost.

Is that pretty easy to do? I hadn't even really thought about trying to fix it haha. Is it as easy as opening it up and popping out one cone and putting in a new one? And are cone's pretty standard in size and all that? I'll do some googling in a little bit after work, but any info is appreciated. If it's too complicated for me (if it involves following instructions and snapping pieces into place, I can do that haha) I'll probably just buy some new comparable monitors, but maybe fixing would be a good option.

    Hi polarbear,

I am getting my D5's tomorrow.  Here's the thread.  Smaller cone than your Events but the reviews are just too good to ignore.  I will post a followup in a few days after I break them in.

Bummer Polarbear. One of my Behrry Truths(2031A) is on it's way out, after around 8 or 9 years. Been a good run I guess. They don't sell them individually in Oz, from my research, like they do in the States, so am deciding on trying something new, or going for the Truths again. Interestingly(I think) the price here is around the same as when I got them last time. Not sure if you've noticed the price difference on your events from the last time you got them to now. It surprises me, as so much other stuff has gone through the roof since then lol. Good luck in the search man whatever you decide on.

    Polarbear and Gaffpro,
I have been using my new D5's for a few days and I love them.  I mixed this song on them and posted it yesterday:
    http://forum.cakewalk.com/tm.aspx?m=2546850

They do need to break in and I am still in that period.  However, I am very impressed with the quality of the audio.  They are small, clean, and have very good imaging.  When I turn up the music, you can feel the air being push out of the bass port.  I will report again after this next week when they should be fully broken in.

    hello polarbear,
i had to replace the poweramp module in one of my tr-6 and i can confirm that it is as easy as pie to work on.  just a few screws to get inside and all connections are slide connections (be careful with the led light connection!).  you can still get the amp modules from event (~ $ 60 ) so i would guess the speakers are also availiable.  check with them before making any rash decisions about dumping the events .... as you know, the monitors are very good.
    cheers
