Replacing faders on a Fostex 450 mixer



Here's a question that maybe some Craig Anderton type may hopefully be able to chime in on.

A friend of mine is getting back into this whole music thing and has a Fostex 450/8 mixer that was sitting in his garage for quite a while and works OK but needs three of the faders in the output stage replaced (contact cleaner does no good). From what I've seen the cost of replacing them makes it not worth repairing. Is it possible to replace the ALPS 20K faders with ones that are of different impedance? Anyone successfully do any mods of this type? TIA for any help with this.

    That mixer is not even worth the cost of one knob much less a pot. Get a new mixer. The Fostex 450 was perhaps the noisiest mixer ever made. It's like they not only used poor quality parts they went to extra effort to make sure extra hiss was designed in so it wouldn't hurt sales of real mixers LOL ! It's not even fit for PA use to call bingo.
