Replicating Notes Through Chord Changes

Hello, this might be a noob question, not sure.

I have a 2-bar synth pattern that I wish to replicate for 8 more bars, but the chords need to change.  I know about the paint roller option, but is there a way to paint the pattern across and align to some sort of chord grid or something like that?

Thank You!

You can copy/paste, then select notes and drag them to the proper root (and adjust 3rds, etc.). For triads I do not find it much quicker than redrawing them though.

Sans a chord track generator, I talked to the gentleman who had created this "Key Chords" site, and he graciously modified his site to include an "Export MIDI" button in the middle of the GUI. If you select key in the upper left, it exposes the most common chords, which can then be drag/dropped into the rectangular section at the bottom. With the BPM set properly you can set each chord to 8 beats (for your case in the OP). Then "Export MIDI" with the "Structure Only" left checked (gives full duration MIDI notes for each chord). That MIDI can then be drag/dropped into your SONAR project for use.

Unchecking Structure Only tries to emulate the strum pattern, but at the point I last spoke to him that was not working properly (and he did this for us on his own dime).

    @ mettelus
Thanks for pointing out the Key Chords app. I haven't seen that before. Saves a lot of work with the Export Midi function too.

I usually play all of my chords into SONAR manually.

This way you get little timing & velocity differences which makes the performance less "sterile"

This might not be what you want of course but thought I'd mention it!

its a mechanical synth arp, so i want it rigid.

Of course I know i can copy them and adjust the triads, but im looking for a more automatic way... pitch markers maybe?

    I'd do it in PRV
    Select then drag/copy

Create one track for each transposition you want to do, e.g., one track for tonic, one track for 4th, one track for 5th. Insert the Transpose MIDI FX set to the appropriate interval in the appropriate track. Drag your 2-bar synth pattern into the appropriate track for the transposition you want, then bounce them all together to create a final, single track that reflects all the transpositions.

    SilverBlueMedallion pitch markers maybe?

    ^^^^^^
    This.

Make a groove clip of your pattern and specify the root. If you add markers in track view you can make the patterns transpose to the new root note in the marker.

Downside is the patterns won't automatically change from major to minor etc, its a straight transposition.

Sometimes I find that the manual process is quicker and easier than trying to use some type of automation.

You do realize that you can select multiple notes (like 2 bars) in the PRV?

A potentially bigger downside is the formant changes that happen with pitch transposition. Groove clips stretch tempo much better than pitch. The reason I recommended what I did is because the timbre won't change.
