Reply to "Giving up on Sonar"

I am getting so many errors on this server that I am having trouble replying to others who are replying to my previous post. I am active on a lot of forums and I never have the problems that I am having on this forum. On Windows 7/Explorer 8, I hit reply and only get a little message that says there were errors on the page and nothing else happens. On this Windows XP system I get a fatal message and the web page aborts. So I appologize for not posting replies to my original post.

As far as the "click on notes and now longer hear sound after playing the piece" problem goes, I got so exasperated that I decided to run updates to the Windows 7/64 system hoping and praying that it would boot and the updates would not corrupt my system. The first thing I did was to go into Sonar and do a quick try and see if the problem I previously described was still there. Miraculously, the problem seems to be gone. So this is not Sonar's fault but Microsoft's. Any surprize to anyone? Anyway, I thank everyone for the help and suggestions. Looks like I can now begin exploring my new installation after pulling my hair out for over six months with a useless system. I am glad this problem is solved! I feel I am now officially a Sonar user.

False security. I just tried it again and the problem is still there. Seems Sonar is still to blame.

    No .... I don't believe it is Sonar's problem.

You are using a W7/64 bit OS..... I believe Sonar can handle that OK... but you still have not answered the question about the SOUND CARD you are using.

Answer THAT question please, and also what DRIVER are you using with that sound card?

I was finally able to post replies to my original thread. I answered your questions there. I don't remember the exact version of the driver but it was the very latest ASIO drivers from Echo as of about one or two weeks ago. The version had an 8 in there somewhere. I just tried to get on their website to find out and it is not working. Looks like they are testing it.

I just brought up the Echo Console and it says:

    WDM driver 8.5
    ASIO driver 8.5
    Console 8.5

I have ASIO drivers selected in Sonar.

since you are using a so called "cakewalk approved" interface with ASIO drivers.... there should not be a problem..... although I am still suspecting it is some sort of driver incompatibility issue, likely with the 64bit OS....

there have been a number of problems surfacing as the changeover to 64 bits happens.

That is the reason that on my new DAW build I loaded XP 32 bit on it so it runs smooth.

I think that even if you are running MC5, which is designed for W7, it MUST be run in 32 bit emulation mode for it to work properly.

Have you tried running Sonar on your machine  in the 32 bit mode to see if that solves the problem?

Pablo you never replied to the questions as to whether you are using the pencil tool, or the arrow tool to make the notes sound. This information matters.

Although i tried MC5 with both the pencil tool and the arrow and on my system both sound the notes using TTS.

Even though MC5 is a stripped down version of Sonar, there are a lot of features in Sonar that are not in MC5 so some of those may be causing this issue, so trying MC5 is not a very expensive experiment. You might have joy for just a few dollars, and you could buy the lesser expensive download since you have 8.5 with all the plugins and stuff that should work nicely in MC5 as well.

I'd Seize the day but i can't quite reach it!
