Report on live performance with x2

I am happy to report that x2 performed flawlessly at my Saturday gig. I set all my files up so sonar only needs to play back audio files. Mostly a single audio track that has been mastered with ozone5 plug. I freeze the track and archive anything else in the file not needed. I use the song list so I do not need to spend time poking the laptop during performance. I do use the lyrics window for the chord chart and lyrics that move in real time. In the past, the song list had issues with opening and closing files so there was nothing automatic and you would spend time monkeying with files during performance. What I would like to see Sonar develop with the song list is: 1. Saving the song list with a custom column setup. 2. Access to changing the font size 3. Access to changing the font color for high lighting files on the list. 4. Ability to have two or more song lists open at one time. I think if the developers set down and said "what would I like the song list to do during a live performance"then we would get the tools live performers want. There is a far amount of bugs that still exist in x2 and I suspect we will see additional fixes. I do not have a problem with waiting for patches as long as they work.

Glad to hear it worked good for you live. I've used it many times myself without a problem. I've not used X1 or X2 for live performances yet, but I'm sure it will do the same as I'm used to with 8.5.

You probably won'r get any feature improvements due to Sonar not really catering to being a "live" app. I actually like the old playlist we used to have in Cakewalk 9. You didn't even have to open Sonar...you just clicked this thing and it played. I really miss it as well as Virtual Piano.

But getting back, my use is a bit more involved than yours for life. I literally have my entire show in Sonar via click track and midi patch changes. It changes my pre-amp patches as well as our keyboard patches in real time so it's one less thing we have to worry about.  We can still manually change if we vamp something for a longer period of time which is cool. But it sure is nice to NOT be tied down to my pedal board to where Sonar just changes all my patches perfectly and to the numbers. We play to a click track that only my drummer can hear, but we're so used to it we're on auto-pilot and everything works perfectly. :) We also trigger sound effects from it too as they are inserted in with our live project file. It's a bit tedious to set up, but once it's all done, it's a blessing. :)

I've used X2a to record live for the last couple of weeks. I record 16 tracks live and remix later. So far, so good. No problems. I haven't tried the set list yet, but I, too, miss the Cakewalk 9 playlist feature. It was clean and efficient.
