Re-register Guitar Rig after X2 Install?

Years back, I bought Sonar 8 Producer bundled with NI Guitar Rig, which I registered offline with NI & have used on & off for a few years.

I recently bought X2 Producer, and yesterday when I launched Sonar 8 and tried to use Guitar rig, it asked me to either "contine in demo mode, or register".  Apparently installing X2 caused my registered version of Guitar Rig (under SP8) to believe it is unregistered.  My DAW is offline.

Do I need to re-register? I already have my serial number and such from the original purchase.  (I recall that registering it offline was a bit of a pain the first time.)  Same PC; only change was installing X2.  Thanks for any guidance on this.

It's easiest if the DAW PC is online and you use the NI Service Center to handle registration / software updates  for you. Just start the NI Service Center and have a look if GR needs to be updated or re-registered.

Installing X2 will not caused that, since it's now bundled with TH2, but starting GR may have triggered something..(that would be the same result if started by Sonar 8)..

GR had been updated a few times and a lot of users found all the racks missing till it's updated.

It might be "easiest" to put the DAW online, but I refuse to have my music PC touch the internet (ever). Installing X2 clearly caused this, since it is the only software change to the music PC in 4 years. For real. Has no one else upgraded Sonar and found that GR now seems to need to be re-registered? Is there any harm in my just doing another registration (despite the fact that I have already registered it)? I obviously don't want them (NI) to freeze my account, thinking that I am some sort of software pirate (attempting multiple registrations). Has anybody else experienced this? Thanks, Ed

If X1, that migh be true. But highly unlikely with X2 as GR is no longer part of X2.

If you search the forum, most users had problem with GR racks not showing up (could be a timer ?) but after updating, all is fine.

In a related incident, my True Pianos was not functioning and had to be re-registered. But after a few days, same problem came back. A check on the website (with the intention to contact support) found that there is an update. Install the update, re-register using same code, and it's problem free now.

Guitar Rig is clearly NOT part of Sonar anymore, and clearly did NOT cause this issue, regardless of what you think.  It is not present in the Sonar installation process.

I have had NI allow additional registrations, and I have also had NI deny additional registrations, requiring a phone call to tech support to sort out.

If you choose to not connect to the internet that's fine - your choice, lots of people do not keep music DAW computers web-connected (some connect for maintenance periodically) - then I guess you will have to figure out how to register Guitar Rig offline.

Or not, clearly you have a lot of options.

I sent a note to NI tech support with the details and am waiting to hear back.  Since it's been almost a day, I will probably just proceed with offline registration, like I did 4 years ago.  It was a challenge / response thing, where they send you a file that you port via usb stick over to the daw.

Regardless, literally the only change on this box was installing X2 and then the X2A patch.  Very very clearly, there was something to do with the install that hosed my plug manager, because my plugs are different now in S8P.  ONLY change was X2A.  I read of others stating where the X2 messed with the plug layout of older Cake installs, so I am not the only one with such a situation.  I should probably try a full re-scan (with reset failed plugs checked off) in S8P first.  (This is by no means my first upgrade of a Cake DAW - see signature.)

PS, Glyn, thanks for the link! I will go down that route (again) if the rescan doesn't do it.
