[Resolved] Any idea why X3 ruined my screen res?

Just installed X3 on my laptop (screen resolution 1920x1080) but its displaying at an awful lower resolution.  X2 still looks great as seen in the pics.  Any ideas?

Hmm...guess I cant post images for three days...thats annoying.  Ill come back to this in three days. :)

You cannot post images directly into your post.

You need to host it somewhere like Photobucket/Dropbox etc, then get the link code which you paste into your post using the icon that looks like a mountain.

But you're not allowed to post links until you hit 25 posts, so go introduce youtself in the Coffee House below

Most of them are pretty normal.

Well, a few on them are.

Yes, pictures of this would be very helpful.  Also, Tech Support may be able to help you troubleshoot this as it looks like it could be some sort of configuration on your computer.  I'm not sure what though until I see I picture.

    FWIW,

I've been using Sonar with a screen resolution of 1900x1080 since X1... definitely not a Sonar issue.

If you right click the Sonar executable and go to "compatibility", does it say anything about screen resolution or color bit depth?

    Same here.

The reason people say the vinyl sounds better is because the music was better.

Looked over compatibility mode, no issues there.  I sent a message in to tech support so hopefully Ill hear something.  X2 looks great...x3 looks like it dropped to 1200x800 res or something.  Tried posting the image as a link but it still didn't work.  Sigh.

Ironiclly, I cant even PM someone the link since I need to be a member for 3 days (or 25 posts).  I guess its combating spam, but these forum rules are a bit restrictive...

actually, lets try this...the link is flicker dot com/photos/106922718@N03/

Just figured out my issue. Right click on the desktop and go to "screen resolution"  then click on "Make text and other items larger or smaller"  drag the slider all the way to the left (smaller), and you should be back to full screen rez in Sonar.

Hmm, it seems like the issue is that SONAR X2 is different than SONAR X3. I'm assuming that your workaround is affecting both at the same time? If so, then Badmrpotato's issue may be different. Not sure though.

I assisted someone several years ago that was killing their four displays when opening SONAR. It would turn off three displays and revert to a single display. The single display would then display everything in 16 bit colors.

Turns out it wasn't a setting on SONAR.exe, but rather a result of the VST Scanner scanning a plug-in that was triggering Bitbridge.exe that had it's Properties (in Windows) set to "Settings - Reduced Color Mode - 16-bit color".

Took us about 4 hours to isolate it. No idea how that got set like that.

Anyhow, moral of my story is that I wonder if somehow a component that SONAR was scanning was set to use reduced colors. Glad it's solved! If it happens again, try disabling the VST scanner and see if the results change. If so, go through all of your plug-ins and see if you can find the culprit.

Interesting fix.  I wonder if I go back into my screen settings to set the screen magnification back to medium and install X3c if I'll get the full 1080p display in Sonar.  I haven't loaded the C-patch yet, so I'll try this tonight when I get home.

Confirmed that my issue was different.  I went back to the medium magnification settings and installed X3c.  When I opened the program Sonar still acts as if it were on a 720p display.  So it looks like you need to make sure to turn off all magnification settings or you will lose screen real estate.
