[Resolved] HELP!!! No Sound with M-Audio Uno & Yamaha Keyboard

I am using X1 Pro, and as my midi i am using the m-audio uno with a basic yamaha midi keyboard as interface.  I do have a signal when I hit key but I cannot see or hear any activity in Sonar if I am not recording or during recording.    I have done all I can and I need some outside help on this one.

Do you have the input echo button on the MIDI track enabled and a output selected?

Check that the channel you are outputting to is valid for that synth. For example a couple of my drum machines will only playback on channel 10.

Check your routing to an output on your interface if using soft synths. If it's a hardware synth make sure it is connected to something that enables you to hear playback and/or the volume is up.

Preferences>MIDI devices. Does your Uno show up there?

    Local 'Off' for the Yamaha?

    MIDI thru?

Reverse your MIDI cables on the UNO?

    MIDI OMNI?

If the Yammie is being used as your MIDI interface then you're trying to play a soft synth? Correct?

    inputs and outputs-

    correct drivers selected-

    onboard sound disabled in sonar

mid track output routed to the softsynth

softsynth output track routed to an output of your sound interface

Sometimes you need to change the midi channel on the midi track to one instead of omni to get the softsynth to sound-

"I read someplace (Sweetwater website, I think) that it\'s not compatible with some Yamaha keyboards"

    From this review - http://reviews.pricegrabb...accessories/m/8112213/

Hoping this is not true for the OP's sake.

Here's a workaround for the Yammie keyboards from an Amazon review

More Reviews and not such good luck with Yammie keyboards but the above workaround

ok, i did check and have the output correct.  When I open up a new -> normal project, I see the signal default midi track.  When I insert a synth, then I don't see a signal, nor do I hear what I am playing.

What do u think causes this?

Gentlemen I must admit that it was user error.  I didn't have the wave preview on nor did I have the echo.  Thank you for your time and thank you for all the great solutions.  Drinks are on me (non-alcoholic bevs).  CHEERS!

You should not need echo on to hear the sound, at least if you have a real sound interface.

Echo (aka input monitoring) takes resourses up and causes latency on less than sufficient sound cards (aka on board sound).

Glad you got some sound, but I do recommend getting a real sound interface that is know to perform decent when you get a chance.

Here is a very good one that is very inexpensive, assuming you have a PCI slot (not PCI express) free to put this in:

    Hey Guys,

Another Newbie with a problem. I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64bit, 8G ram, I72600, Delta 66 with omni. Studio headphones. AT2020 Audio technica mic, separate midi interface.

I can't hear anything in sonar X1. I have reassigned the buses, drivers, inputs, outputs. I have downloaded all correct drivers, and even tried ASIO4All. It just says not connected. THis is an awsome sound card, why can't I hear anything?

What ticks me off the most is that I can even get audacity to run through my delta 66. I have read all the forums, and tried the echo on and off. Nothing......

    Please help!!!!!!!

    Does X1 see the delta?

What are you trying to play in sonar? A audio wav file? A Softsynth?
