[Resolved] Problems with the problem reporter
1 I am not receiving any of the emails sent out by the problem reporter 2 I am unable to view the status of an existing problem report - I enter the email and CWBRN number, a bit of code runs then returns me to the screen where you put in the email and CWBRN number. Why do CW make it so difficult to follow up reported problems? Not sure how to report this problem as the problem reporter only seems to be for product......and doesn't appear to work either.

It's part of their corporate sponsored "Customer Elimination Program" ... CEP for short. That's just the way it works, there's actually no problem.

I've just reported something and also checked the status of a previous report (as in, within the last ten minutes) and both of those things worked fine for me. The behaviour you describe - it just going straight back to the page you put the CWBRN number into - is what happens if you type the number in incorrectly.

Twigman, it looks like your report didn't go through. I'm really sorry, you'll have to fill it out again.

Yeah, seems that wasn't the problem, was just making a suggestion.

I have other reports (eg CWBRN-3742 - I cannot acces that either....) Just tried again and cannot see the status of ANY of my reports

Well... I'm not presently of the view that this forum is any use whatsoever for discussing problems. There are too few people here with a genuine interest in solutions, as far as I can see. So I'd rather take it up with the Cakewalk staff, who have responded promptly and helpfully to other issues I've raised.

Hi Ian, This is because you gave us a bogus email address. The email address you provided was 'fsmet'. I'm assuming you meant to use the same one as your forum account which is 'fsnet'. We've tested the changes made today against FF 3,4,5 IE 8,9 Chrome and Opera.

That's the problem Willy. Why can't we have cookies for the problem reporter that serves to auto fill all that sort of stuff? I've been hoping for that for a few years.

That is exactly one of the changes we made, your most recent CWBRN and email provided are stored in a cookie so if you hit the status page without those query strings (the link provided in follow-up emails for example will also pre-populate those fields) then it will pull them from the cookie.

That is excellent news. I had read that some improvements were in the works. Thanks very much... that seems like a great improvement. What about the possibility of also including system specs and other vitals that are repeated? best regards, mike

I wonder if we are talking about the same thing: I just went to test the problem reporter and I have to type in my name, email, version, serial number, OS etc. etc. Most of that stuff stays the same for me for at least a year... some of it stays the same for several years. I'm now thinking you are saying the cookie only works after you post and have a CWBRN. I am asking for something that makes filing a report easier. I can buy stuff at amazon with a single click... it seems like I ought to be able to post a problem report as easily. all the best, mike

What about the possibility of also including system specs and other vitals that are repeated? I'm not sure if you recall but around Thanksgiving 2009 you sent me a wish list. We've actually tried to do most of it and some of the things you mentioned are parts of some other bigger projects still in progress. RE: System specs we actually do persist this information now for Technical Support. We do not however do this for problem reports because it is painfully important that anything that is sent to the dev team is accurate and current information.

I am asking for something that makes filing a report easier. Mike, if you are using Firefox there's an add-on called fireform that you enter your details into. Then when you need to fill out on online form you just hit the fireform icon and it fills them in for you. You can program it to learn unique fields on web pages such as "Serial number" by right-clicking and selecting "fireform fill with" enter your serial number and next time you visit the reporter fireform will fill the whole form for you when you click on the fireform icon. Not only that but it works on almost all web page forms. Takes a little setting up but you've only got to do it once. It's a very handy utility.
