[Resolved] Project plays forever and ever and ever........

Hi Peeps,

Please forgive me. I've done a search for this but I'm obviously not putting the correct text in the search engine.

I have a nice simple project on the go. Just once instance of Twin with a single fifteen minute long note on its MIDI track.

I've got seven busses and I have automated the sends to five of them.

There are no MIDI events or automation curves beyond fifteen minutes but the project carries on playing until I press the stop button.

I am sure I've seen this being discussed before but for the life of me I can't find a solution. I'm sure it's a simple answer

Not a major issue, but I think that when I come to export the audio track it's going to be much longer than it needs to be. I know that I can simply trim it down in SoundForge, which I always do anyway, but it takes an age to export the audio.

In fact, before hitting the Submit Post button I just exported this project to audio. It was 27 minutes long and not the expected 15 minutes.

Thanks in advance,

cheers

andy

    Weird...

I re-opened the project and it stopped at the end.

I think I know why it kept playing past the project end previously:-

I sometimes do not get the results that I expect when it comes to effects tails. They sometimes become cropped short instead of fading out to "inf."

To work around that I place a short MIDI note, in its own clip, about five or so seconds after the end of the project. I then mute that clip, but I know that the project will still carry on playing to that clip, even though it is muted.

When I did this in my current project, the event draw duration was set to that 15 minute long note, which was the last event that I placed. So when I placed my next note, near the end of the project, it was also fifteen minutes long. It didn't need to be that long so I edited it down to a crotchet (hey! not bad for a dumb ambient "musician!").

I think that Sonar still thought that my project finished at the end of that second note, even though I had made it much shorter.

I've just exported audio and it was the correct length this time.

No changed were made to the project at all, by the way, I just closed it and re-opened it.

    cheers

That song seems to play forever and ever, tho I think it was intentional.

Good luck with your problem.  Thought a bit of humor wouldn't hurt.

Rather than inserting a dummy midi note in it's own clip and muting it, I just drag the last node of any envelope to the point where I want SONAR to stop playing.

    Hiya Jonesey,

Yeah, I've tried that, but it's always been a bit hit and miss for me for some reason. Sometimes it seems to work, and then sometimes it doesn't.

    cheers
