Resolved - Why is "Custom" the default for the Track View controls??
This is driving me nuts. Whenever I open or create a project, I always have to change the control view from Custom to show all controls (or just the specfici group of controls such as I/O). Is there a way to change that or at least show all of the available controls in the Track Pane (instead of the lame "Custom" view) as the default setting? Any tips in this regard are much appreciated. Kind regards, Living Room Rocker

Don't know 'why' seems crazy to me but to change it to your preference.......... Set it up the way you want it and then save the whole thing as your 'normal' template.

When opening existing projects, it should remember whatever it was saved as. So unless something's wrong, this should only be the case on new projects.

Saving my normal template or any other project doesn't seem to do the trick. I never leave it on Custome since custome does not reveal my desired controls (I/O, Fx Bin...). Now I wonder why it isn't working for me. Thanks for the responses, guys. Kind regards, Living Room Rocker

I understand your confusion - "Custom" is really a perplexing name for the default, because it's the view that shows the least. What's so "custom" about that? It's certainly not the only thing that doesn't make logical sense in X1. I've never wanted to see less than Everything available--why that isn't the default, one has to wonder. "Custom" indicates something one has--um, customized - so--yes, the name makes no sense. But as the folks here on the thread have said, you just save different parameters for everything you want as a new "normal template" and then you'll never be bothered again. RB

I don't know about custom being an illogical use of the word. What would they call it after all when all is a preset. A few? Not too many? Its just as logical as using the word bounce for writing to a file. Or for that matter any number of Sonar speak terms. Its really a matter of becoming familiar with the terms.

If I'm looking at the default set up of something which I haven't done anything with yet, I don't know how it can be anything but "default"--it's not Custom in any way that I understand the word. Use of a word isn't as important to me as how odd is it to me that for some time now, the default view has been with the least amount of info available visible. I can't imagine not wanting to see Everything available to a track - I don't want to see the sends, the EQ, the anything you can name?---Not when I'm starting to put a new project together from scratch anyway. Might be worth pointing out that you can create as many presets as you want and call them what you want. Agreed that custom as default though doesn't make much sense.

Sorry John, I am of the majority here in my understanding of "custom" in this instance. Consider that the "custom" setting cannot be customized, so why call it custom? (But that may be a whole other discussion that isn't pertinent to my initial question.) Nonetheless, after my attempts to save my preference to a template, with no success, it occurred to me to use a Screenset (which I do not use since they are not global, so I have to save or copy "screensets" from one project to another - instead I saved/locked one screen set in my normal template and use that...now back to the topic at hand). If I save the View setting in a screenset and then save that within a template, the preferred view sticks. So the trick is, use the Screenset to save this particular setting in X1. I do appreciate all your input and suggestions (short one commentary). Kind regards, Living Room Rocker

Consider that the "custom" setting cannot be customized, so why call it custom? (But that may be a whole other discussion that isn't pertinent to my initial question.) But it can be customised via the widget manager, and saved. You can have as many custom widget views as you want. That said it still doesn't make sense having the custom view as default. To make your screensets 'global' to all new projects, set them up how you want them and then save it as your 'normal' template. Then every new project will have your preferred screensets in exactly the same way you have for your widget settings.

Living Room Rocker Consider that the "custom" setting cannot be customized, so why call it custom? (But that may be a whole other discussion that isn't pertinent to my initial question.) Living Room Rocker It can be customised, as it always could in older versions of Sonar and you can have various presets named as you like. Look up "widget manager" in the manual!
