[Resolved] X3-no audio metronome?
just curious if anybody else is having this issue. I'm not getting any audio metronome for playback or recording, pre-count, nada. Everything is set as it was in X2. X2 works fine. Is it just me? Is there a stray new check box or something I should be looking for?

I am having the same issue. The .wav files are present in the Cakewalk Content/SONAR X3 Producer/Metronome folder, but do not sound names appear in the Preferences/Project/Metronome drop-down selection boxes so no sound may be selected. I tried reinstalling X3, but the problem persists. The MIDI metronome works fine. Please advise.

ok-I found my problem (with your help Studio V-thanks!). I had copied my Cakewalk Content folder to my data drive at some point while using X2, while leaving the original folder on my system drive. When X3 installed, it dutifully (I think-I don't recall doing this manually) put the X3 content in the folder on my data drive. However, it was looking to my system drive folder for the metronome wav. files. (I hope I'm making sense.) Once I copied the Sonar X3 content folder to the Cakewalk Content folder on my system drive, I had metronome sounds again. I probably didn't notice this because I am able to point things like template folders where ever I put them, which in this case was my content folder on my data drive. I guess my question for Sonar or anybody would be is there any way for me to direct the metronome to a certain sound folder? I much prefer keeping the content in my documents folder on a data drive. Easier to manage, easier carbonite backup, etc. Thanks! Andrew

You could use the DOS command mklink and create a junction to get the metronome directory from anywhere. For example: mklink /j "C:\users\MYUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\MYSONARVERSION\Metronome" "d:\Somewhere else\Metronome"

Within Edit > Preferences > Project > Metronome do you have a dropdown list next to "First Beat" and "Other Beats" containing a list of sounds?

Do you have an Output setup for your Metronome? Does this happen in brand new projects?

scook-thanks...may try that. Dan-I'm all good now, as my ensuing message indicated; the X3 content was not where the metronome was looking for it. I don't know if Studio Vheissu has a similar issue or different circumstances. Thanks!

I tried the following command in the Command Prompt in Windows Accessories folder: mklink /j "C:\Cakewalk Content\SONAR X3 Producer\Metronome" I got an error message saying: "The syntax of the command is incorrect. Creates a symbolic link" Then give some link command examples, but no combination seem to give a proper command. Am I missing a keystroke somewhere?

Yes that is an incomplete command. The full command would be mklink /j NameOfTheLink ActualDirectoryName to get help type mklink /?

This time I typed the following: mklink /j "Metronome" "C:\Cakewalk Content\SONAR X3 Producer\Metronome" It was accepted but I still have no sound names in the preferences metronome drop down menus.

The command that you entered mklink /j "Metronome" "C:\Cakewalk Content\SONAR X3 Producer\Metronome" would created the junction in the current directory. In which directory did you issue the command?

The prompt began with C:\Users\Studio Vheissu> followed by the flashing cursor. Should I have changed this display first? If so, how? I'm only an intermediate when it comes to command line syntax (sorry). Thanks for your help so far.

You created the link in the wrong directory. You can safely delete that link. What version of SONAR do you have?

X3 now. I never had the problem before in any other Cakewalk version (I go back to Pro Audio days). How would I delete the link? Again I apologize for ignorance in this area.

This is an issue I encountered when I bought MC6 off Steam for $17.

Just like you would delete any file. Rather than messing with just the metronome directory, you might be better off, reinitializing SONAR. While there is a copy of the audio metronome files in Cakewalk Content, there is another location that is the basis of your local copy used by the drop down in SONAR. Try this, Start SONAR with the CTRL+SHIFT keys pressed. This will re-personalize SONAR, copying a bunch of files including the metronome files into the correct location.

I just installed X3 upgrade from X2 and did not delete X2. So far I love the program... but am really frustrated that Ive now spent almost my entire morning trying to make the metronome work. I have no data in the drop down boxes in metronome preferences ( I believe X2 said "ping" or something similar). I wouldn't have thought the metronome would've been the show stopper but it is. I had the same problem in X1. I don't mean this to sound as sarcastic as it may sound, but without resorting to heroic measures like entering DOS commands or rebuilding the operating system... isn't there a layman's version of how to get the metronome to work? ... its a metronome..

I have the same problem, no audio metronome on the dropdown list. here is my solution, hope it work 1. instal sonar old version,i try to instal sonar 8 first 2. uninstal sonar 8 3. instal sonar x3 4. copy audio metronome folder from old sonar folder example C:\username\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR 8 Producer Edition\Metronome 5. copy the audio metronome into C:\username\AppData\Roaming\Cakewalk\SONAR X3 Producer 6. done, now open your sonar x3,and metronome is solved
