Resource monitor: Ram allocation W7
If anyone has time can I get some insight into your ram allocation? (Windows 7 64)
If you go alt/cntrl/delete to get into task manager...the click on 'Resource Monitor'
You can see a coloured bar graph showing physical memory allocation.
According to this article:
http://blogs.techrepublic...dow-on-windows/?p=3176
Typically, the amount of Hardware Reserved memory ranges from 10MB to 70MB but can vary depending on the system’s hardware configuration and might be several hundred MB.
AND
This is where I come in...
(Some folks have reported inordinately huge amounts of memory being allocated to the Hardware Reserved list. While I haven’t encountered this situation myself and can’t verify the suggested solution, many have reported that upgrading the system BIOS firmware solved the problem.)
As you can see here
My 'hardware reserved' is over 4gig!
You can see the grey bar.
So...have I got something out of whack here or what? I don't have huge amount of hardcore hardware I don't think...my specs:
I7 930 2.8g
Gigabyte X58A-UD3R
HIS ATI pcie HD5670
Seagate 3.5 Sata2 1TB x2
ADATA 2g DDR3 1600 3x2g
[style="]
Zalman CNPS10X Quiet CPU Cooler
[style="]
Cooler Master Silent Pro M700 PSU
Windows 7 Home Premium 64b
If that article (dated Oct 5th 2010) states that a hardware allocation of memory is typically 10-70mb...then why is my PC allocating 4098mb??
any ideas?
thanks

I did an unlikely thing...updated the bios...seems fixed now...all 6g ram is recognised. Now instead of 4096mb reserved for hardware, I have 2mb
