In short. If even a small percentage of reasonably intelligent and sophisticated readers were to respond to the mountain of emails sent with a scam, the scammers would be overwhelmed in trying to respond. Most such readers would see through the scam before actually losing any money. So the object is to get responses only from readers who are so dumb or gullible, that they can be cajoled into sending money in the end.
