Retain Cakewalk Preferences
After installing Sonar Platinum, I mistakenly did not chose to retain or migrate my preferences from a previous version of Cakewalk. Anyone know if there's a way to rectify this after the fact?? Thanks, -Bob G.

Quite a bit, I didn't realize how much customization I had done over the years. Renaming all the audio interface I/O's, custom plugin/virtual instruments lists, audio preferences, etc... I didn't delete X3 so I could spend a couple days getting all that info back, but was hoping there was an easier fix. Really can't dig into Platinum until I get those preferences sorted out ;(

Did you try to delete Platinum and reinstall and choose migrate this time?

I did consider that...and I'm sure it would be quicker than the alternative.

I chose the "Migrate" option and there were things that didn't migrate: Color Presets; Audio hardware (friendly name) options; and probably some other stuff I haven't discovered yet. Some Directory options were migrated, and some weren't. I recommend reviewing your X3 preferences (use screenshots or something) and compare with SONAR 25/2015/New.

I chose migrate, too, and my key bindings followed, but not my track templates. Is this the way it's supposed to be? I'm now taking time to recreate my track templates, when I could be making music.

I chose migrate and not all modules migrated, and then Sonar would not see my Fire Wire interface. I thought there is some big issue. Appears- the driver settings (ASIO) did not migrate, this is why FW was not on inputs/outputs list. I am thinking there is a way to import settings. Look options.

I don't think you need to recreate the track templates. I'm guessing this works as before and that track templates are saved into a folder. Either replace your newSonar-track templates folder with your old X3 one, or locate the right folder (the one with your own track templates) in newSonar's preferences -> file: folder locations

Bob - you could delete the cake.ini file and then SONAR will ask you to "migrate" the next time you start it up. (I'm pretty sure this will work. Rather than delete the ini file, just rename it - so if it all goes pear shaped, you can name the file back again and you'll be no worse off).
Lynn - your track templates (and everything else from X3) are still there. Just look at file locations in "preferences" and substitute "SONAR X3" for "SONAR Platinum" and you'll find them. then copy them to the Platinum (or whatever version you have) folder. Or else you could just point your new SONAR to the X3 folder - that would work too.
This is still pretty messy, and I'm not sure the Command Center has given us that much to help make it seamless.

I've been upgrading since X1. In every case the new version is asked to migrate my preferences. It catches all but one thing: that I use a drive besides C: for my project folder. I seem destined to forget this flaw every time, and eventually move my new projects to the external drive manually, while I retrain Sonar where to store them in the future.
Sonar Platinum, Win10 64bit, i5 with 32gb ram, 480gb SSD C drive, 240gb SSD scratch drive, 2tb Cakewalk project drive, dual 24" monitors, M-Audio M-Track Quad, Event TR8 monitors, Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro headphones, lots of guitars and other toys.

Many of us made upgrade from X3 producer to SONAR Platinum. We had Rapture and Dimension Pro from previous installations. I have all my Cakewalk software in a different secondary physical hard disk called E:\ I let X3 Producer and installed Platinum accepting the migration of all previous parameters. After launching Command Center it only scans Cakewalk software in default directories (i.e. C:\program files\cakewalk\...) so the result is a red dot for both software (as they were unistalled). If you unistall them and let Command Center download and reinstall both applications it will not ask you for different directory and will put in c:\... default position.....dimension Pro has over 3,5 GB of data...plus expansion pack.... In the Command Center options I found only download and VST directory. I have Platinum, content files and VST under E:\Cakewalk\.... and would be fine to have also Rapture and Dimension Pro in the same location, even for backup purpose. I even tried to make a manual installation of Rapture and Dimension Pro to E:\Cakewalk\... AFTER Platinum installation, but Command Center doesn't find both programs (still red dot) and they are considered unistalled (without proper search for future updates or fixes). There is a way to set a different default path for all Cakewalk applications with Command Center? or alternatively Any suggestion to force Command Center to scan installed software in NON default path locations? Thanks for every tip and trick you will suggest...

I am not sure of the responses already posted. They seemed more complicated than necessary. The fast and easy way to migrate your preferences from an older installation to a new one is... Hold down the Shift key when starting SONAR. The migration prompt will appear and you can take it from there. Kind regards, tecknot

I did the Shift thing suggested above, but have no idea what it did. Two things I want to get back are: 1. my X3 normal template for new projects so hopefully they will be 24bit 48khz and the tracks laid out convenient starting point 2. my audio FX plugin organization What should I do? Just go copy those X3 files and put them in the Platinum folder?

Everything migrated correctly when I upgraded from X3 Producer to Platinum. I have my Projects in a different location and I had to change that in the Preferences, but that isn't Cakewalk's fault that I have it in a location other than the default.
