"Revelations From the Age of Enlightenment" - classical electronica

"Revelations From the Age of Enlightenment"
Michael John

Comments welcome on my new composition, a trance-like classical electronica work.  The challenge in the KVR contest is to write a piece using only one free vsti synth: GTG NR2010 (vsti soft synth). These free vsti synths are often very quirky and this one was, but was very stable in Sonar.

Made in Sonar 8 with 9 instances of the synth.

thanks for listening,
Mike

Yeah, that was quite a trip, and all the more impressive given the constraints.  The whole sounded great to my ears, and the only very minor crit was that I found one synth sound (like a white or pink noise whoosh) somewhat distracting... maybe if the level came back in.

Very impressive piece, Mike.  You've got to have a great shot with this.  When do they announce contest results?

yes, fantastic. i agree about the splash noise being a bit much. not the world's best sounding synth ever but you have made the most of what's there!

Yep, given with what you have to work with, this is very good indeed.

Good luck with the contest Mike.

Great peace of work.  How do you get a 60hz buzz using a DAW and soft synth?  Unless you are going though external gear.

    Wow Mike!

The playing on this is fantastic and the composition, very well layed out.

You dazzled me with some of those keyboard runs!! :)

You certainly gave the NR2010 a workout.  Nice showcase for the sounds.  Excellent chops - both comp and playing.  It sounds very good, esp. with the constraints from the contest.

Pretty impressive. Very well arranged piece of music with a great sense of purpose and forward momentum. Lots of stuff going on in there, for sure. I agree with the others who said that splashy-thingy wasn't working. That's a great place for an accent but the timbre just doesn't jell with the other sounds. I can hear something like a big Kitaro-like taiko drum fitting in there. Sort of like what Enya did in Orinoco Flow. Or not.

Never a dull moment in this tune. Tension, resolution, staccato bass creating a sense of urgency, syncopation in the melody, changing dynamics... Kudos to you, sir.
