Reverb/Delay

I record r&b vocals. I have no idea how to use the reverb and delay on MC3, and when i use it, the echo sounds like I'm in a church or something. I don't know much about electronic mastering, so the numbers and stuff is all greek to me. Im tired of fudging around with it, I want to know exactly how to use it.

Can someone guide me? Im looking for that professional reverb/delay to make my vocals have that touch of echo.
Also, could you suggest any tutorial movies on electronic mastering and production?

Thanks,
Farid

You probably will want reverb, not delay. I never use the reverb that comes with m/c so I don't know if they have any presets, but if they do, try one or two. The names are usually pretty descriptive, "room" would give a room feel, while "hall" would be a much larger room. The classic series are free download vst plugins, I really like their reverb for quick and easy, good sounding presets. For r&b, I'm not sure, but I don't think I hear a lot of reverb in that type of music, but you probably want something more like a medium sized room or bar sound.
I'll ckeck the presets in m/c, and try to find my link to the classic plugins.

Try these free plug-ins out. This reverb really worked for me www.kjaerhusaudio.com/classic-series.php It's the site that gamblerschoice recommended for me. Also for r&b I would probably use presets:room/vocal ambient/small club or church hall(might have to turn some things down with this one though). Good luck!

Thanx horus, I completely forgot to get that link. I really like the small club setting, especially for bass and drums, just sounds like you're there. I think the room ambient is probably a good call, also. And, I forgot to check the m/c presets...duh. Well not really forgot, my computer at home decided to act stupid last night. I was downloading a large file, while working on a few drum tracks in m/c, while tranfering some files from a cd to my external drive, and the machine locked up....lost the download after 75% was already copied, no "resume" available, lost the drum tracks, no "auto save" enabled, and couldn't eject the cd from the drive...unplugged the computer and went to bed. Computers are soooo stupid.

Thanks both of you. I tried the presets before, and I didnt like them - too much reverb most of them cause. I believe the reason gambler says he doesnt hear reverb/delay in r&B is it seems r&b vocals barely have a reverb - like the echo barely lingers and you have to listen closely for even the delay, or you wont notice it. But obviously tiny thing like that makes a big difference in the vocals sounding 3d and professional.

Ill try that plug in out. I actually dont even know how to install plug ins to MC, so you may be hearing from me again.

    Thanks though,

^^ Al, I think Bill Gates is reading your posts.
Farid, there are usually some knobs to turn, even with presets. Just click things, turn things, give it a whirl. I don't know what all those numbers mean, either, I just tweak 'til it sounds okay.

The best way to use reverb is in a aux buss. Just place a reverb in aux 1 on the console view, then right click in the center of the volume strip of the vocal track and add a send and a return then slowly dial in the reverb to taste. This can be done with all of the tracks, and each can be processed to your personal likes.
