Rewire Playback during Record

I saw some threads on this awhile ago when discussing Sonar 4 but nothing too recently.

I have Sonar PE 7.0.2 and created a new project, that at this point consists of 3 Rewire tracks that trigger drum sounds from Reason 4. Two midi tracks and of course the stereo audio return track from Reason itself.

I added another MIDI track to record a bass part against the drum tracks. This midi track is not a Rewire track. It controls and listens to midi from my Triton Studio. When I go into record mode, the midi tracks that drive the Reason drums do not play back whilst recording. Once I stop recording and play back the tracks, everything plays just fine. Anything I recorded is also successfully captured and plays back as well. I have no dropouts during playback.

There are no audio tracks in the project at this point, it's purely midi tracks driving drum sounds in Reason through Rewire. Now one test I did perform was to render the Reason output as an audio track. If I do that, I can hear the audio track while I record the bass part. Also, I do not have this problem with any other midi tracks triggering anything else in my rig. Only the Rewire tracks fail to playback during recording. This was working in the past and I haven't changed anything recently on my DAW.

I am running ASIO mLan 1.62 drivers on an XPSP2 32bit setup (see my signature). Latency is 5.1ms @ 44.1 24bit for this particular project. My OS is stripped down as far as it can go and still run. Only 20 processes at the desktop when mLan is enabled.

Anyone else have this issue in Sonar 7? Any suggestions? My aud.ini is stock but then again there's no audio tracks at this point so I can't imagine disk I/O settings having any affect on this.

Thanks

Jim

Did a little more poking around on this issue last night. I found that if I freeze the Rewire tracks I can hear them when I'm recording. It still doesn't play back when the tracks aren't frozen though. I looked at my ASIO drivers again both in Reason in stand alone mode and also in Rewire mode. Everything looks good. I tried deleting the midi clip from one of the Rewire Midi tracks and then undeleting it. I saw this in an earlier thread, but that didn't help any. So for now, I can live with freezing the Reason tracks while recording.

I'm just curious if anyone else out there has a similar problem with Rewired tracks during recording.

    Thanks

I am experiencing this problem, too.  I'm going to try your freezing trick.  If it works, that's great, but what a hassle.  I would expect to not need to do anything - the ReWire should just work when I record a new track.  I'm having so many issues with the Cakewalk that I'm worried about upgrading.
