Ride with the Wind

I know - this is more special and retro than it is good. I made this one 10 years ago when my brother came over and gave me an old Elgam rythm thing which had 13 rythms and a vari speed control. This thing was older than me. I wouldn't sing the song my self, I know my voice is by far the weakest of my 'instruments', so I never finished it. And I almost forgot I had it until recently. Then I did the singing part so I at least has a demo until I find some one to sing it. Anyway, I have always had a feeling on this one that something is missing. In the beginning there were no organ and it helped to some degree to blend this in and I think that the right voice will help a lot, but still I have this feeling...

Hello David. Your songwriting ideas definitely ride on the same frequencies as mine do ... I enjoyed your new song very much. Simple, soft and neat.
Don't hide behind your voice - really. I don't see a reason why you are afraid to record your own voice. I am convinced you wouldn't really need to run your vocals through the "Cher effect". Just sing straight from your heart, maybe twice to double your track. You'll see it'll turn out just fine.
I would have introduced another instrument - maybe a lead guitar. A solo of either that guitar or the organ somewhere in the last third of the song would create a little peak, and at the end I would slowly fade out the song.
All in all, another good achievment of yours! Super.
    Heinz.

    Don't bother re-recording this. It's perfect.
    beautifully simple.
I love the fact that it has the synthetic sound of two eras bound by the timeless sound of the acoustic.
I honestly don't think you could better this.

    Hi David,

I'll agree with Heinz and Opaque Slogan on this one - I loved it. Really nice, simple piece, very haunting and atmospheric. I thought your voice was perfect for this track, it's got a lovely almost 'folk' inflection. I reckon you could have one of those 'out of nowhere' hits with this if someone would get behind it.

Takes me back to when I used to play in a duo with a Roland Drumatix for beats. Those old machines have a feel all their own.

    Well done!

    James

RigPa!--After reading your extremely modest intro to the song, I didn't expect what I heard--As in, Much better than you led me to expect. In fact, like everyone on this thread, I really liked it. Vocal and all, definitely. The old rhythm machine!--what a fun sound which still sounds cool and groovy. I echo the Donovan reference.

    Simply--Nice!

Thank you all of you for taking the time to listen and comment on this. After reading your comments it seems like the singing part maybe did what I wanted it to do anyway. I didn't think that it had the right expression, but...

I don't know about the end yet. I believe that there is only two ways to end this. Either fade it or just push the stop button on the rythm box. If I go for the fade I could imagine that some organ equilibrism from the 70' will fit in the ending.

Thanks guys for evaluating this ancient song.

    David,

I am really digging the thick reverb on this piece! Quite a fun piece. Thanks for posting that.

    hey man, nice track.

not really my style of music, but I can say the beat sounds clean and vocals go with the flow.

very clean productions man. keep up the good hard work.

    david...
yeah this is cool. +1 to donovan. not that it needs it, but you could have all sorts of stuff going in and out of this one... snips of different percussion or instruments just passing in and out of the mix. keep the listener on his toes. i like the vocal and the vocal effect for this tune. nice job.
    peace,
