    Thanks Phil, much appreciated.
One small confession, I had to lower it a half step from E to Eb. Couldn't make it happen in the original key.
Gettin' old sucks in that regard, lol.

One way to get that "more pristine" sound is to not be afraid to stick your vocals and guitar more upfront with less reverb and delay. You've definitely got the blues mojo workin...go with it:-)

I can't believe you took this on, but I totally believe you nailed it. This would be such a hard song to cover but you really did an amazing job here. I wonder if it's not a couple of bpm faster than the original? Don't care, I like your version, it gives full respect to Mr. Cray. I saw him in the late 80's I think, he was such the real deal.

Organ pad cuts out at :31 and it might be too abrupt for the middle of a verse? I can't remember how the original did it, not that it matters much.

Your guitar tone is killer as is the vocal.

    cheers,

Great job on this Bob, you nailed it!! I saw the Robert Cray Band in the late 90's and there's nothing like seeing him live! I really enjoyed listening to your version x3. Well done!!

    excellent version....

i do find the guitar parts rather thin sounding.
i put this up to the use of software instead of a real amp.

it doesn't sound bad at all,
    it just lacks girth.

    great solo section.
    organ sounds great.....

drum track is a bit boring....
i'd at least program some more 'turn arounds' and think it thru like a drummer who wants to put a couple of chops in there....

Terrific cover, Rob! Takes me back! Reminds me that you don't have to play lightning-fast (e.g., Buddy Guy (who I love, as well)) to rock the blues. Robert Cray just sounded ABFAB!!!

+1 on seeing Robert live. I last saw him outdoors on Navy Pier in Chicago. Rocked from start to finish. Great audio for an outdoor show (same venue as the Blue Oyster Cult concert (which I also attended (I lived across the street)) on blu-ray).

Nice one! I toured this album (Strong Persuader) with Robert as his monitor engineer so it took me back. Don't want to make you too envious even got to play bass at the sound check at the mean fiddler gig with Eric Clapton guesting when Richard, the bass player was running late. He was a lovely bloke to work with and he can make that Telecaster convey emotions like no-one else

Excellent cover Bob. Agree with Batsbrew that the drums could 'get involved' a little, a few nice fills on the turnarounds and in the solos maybe.

Sounds great!   Good overall mix, and the leads are really sweet - bends and vibrato done just right.   You may have lowered the key but it seems to suit your voice well.
