Robin Trower cover featuring Randy Prier on vocals.
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=11591783 Here is a cover tune of Robin Trower's "A Tale Untold" from his "For Earth Below" album. Big thanks to Randy Prier for helping me out with vocals for this one. For the gear heads: Ibanez JS100 guitar plugged into Boss ME-20 pedal into Marshall 100 watt JMP MKII head and 1960a cabinet with 4 GT12-75's, miked with SM-58. MD hotplate between head and cab for manageable volume. All wah and chorus effects recorded live via the Boss pedal.

Excellent. Funky too. Good job on the vocals Randy! Of course I knew the guitars would be cool. This is very well done, I like it for sure! Daryl

Thanks Daryl. I've wanted to do this song for years. It finally occurred to me that I have the equipment and have practiced so why not. And Randy took ownership of the vocals big time.

Guitars tones and performance sound great. Dynamite solos. Thanks for the gear rundown as well. Love Trower. Randy's vox sound really good for this classic style of rock.

Boy, it's really fun to play Robin Trower if you have the gear and the chops. I used to practice his style a lot back in the day. You did a fine cover of this song. The vocal is suited for this style, and the guitar work sounds excellent. Good show.

Mmm, excellent stuff guys. Don't know the song, but I know Jim Dewar was a very under-rated singer, and Randy's done a fine job stepping into his shoes here. Mean and moody guitars Mark, drums are cool too.

Thanks Rhyno, Lynn and James. James, yes I always felt Dewar was underrated. Some of his more ballad type songs are mesmerizing.

Nice job. I was not a big Trower fan..... but I do believe you nailed the sound pretty well.

Herb, thanks for the listen. glad you think I nailed the sound - it was tough. Thanks Mark. This is the cheaper korean js100 version of the js1000. I have both and actually prefer the js100.

Thanks for all the nice comments about the vocal on this everyone. When Mark sent me this, it was the first time I had heard this song. We were just starting another collaboration with some others here, and this one took the back burner for a bit. Then I got a new mic (Sterling ST77) that I wanted to use on this, so that took some time and testing. Then my new car wouldn't play burned CD's, so I couldn't rehearse this like I normally do. Then I got this rash....just kidding. Thanks for your patience Mark. I love the way this turned out. Nice work. Randy

I know of Trower, but unsure if I ever heard anything of his. Did that beginning remind anyone else of this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX_MNKlswi8 Randy sounds great. Mark, as a guitarist you have few peers. The low is kinda missing here, especially with all that slapping and popping.

Randy, almost always a pleasure to work with you. Hope the rash is better by now. And next time that happens, don't send pictures. Thanks James. I appreciate the comment on my guitar playing. As for the low end - I have some mixes where it all falls into place...and others - like this one, a complete struggle with the low end. Do you have any recommendations? Reece, thanks for the listen and I appreciate your comments.

Hey, Mark and Randy, Absolutely phenomenal job on this Trower cover! I practically wore out my (LOL) 8-track copies of both "Bridge of Sighs" and "For Earth Below", way back when. We did "Day of the Eagle" and "Too Rolling Stoned" in my cover band at the time. You guys really nailed this one, the guitar tones and solos are dead on, and Randy's vocals are truly spectacular. It's also great to hear Randy's vocals on the forum again. Monster playing, as usual, Mark, and a dynamite job on the mix. Super work, guys! Bob

This sounds great, you two. Nice to hear Randy sing again! How did you do the drums? They sound great. Great playing on everything, Mark! Wow! I was gonna say turn up the vocals. Then I turned up the volume and it sounds fine. :)

Hi Mark, Great job on capturing Trower's tone and feel while adding your own style to the mix! Excellent work on the vocals and mix, too! A band I was in opened a few shows for Trower years ago, he was a pain to work with

Don't know the artist or the song, but this mix sounds pretty good on lappy speakers. Sounds like you've played that guitar before ! Nice job on the vox too Randy - didn't know what to expect, but it sounds like it should to me. Yoyo the closet Debbie Gibson fan ! Who'da thought it ? Well, to be honest, I'm not entirely surprised ;)

Very cool guys... I'm not familiar with the tune... I was really into Procol Harum in the late '60's, but I never really got into Trower that much... I like this a lot...

Bob, great to see you. Thanks for the comments. Janet, the drums are loops from Drums On Demand. I tend to slice up my loops and move stuff around to suit my needs. Gary, thanks for the comments. Very cool that you opened for Trower. How was he a pain to work with? Paulo, thanks for the listen. Rimshot, thanks for the comments. Frank, glad you like it. It was definately a labor of love doing this song.
