Rock Instrumental - "Cosmic Renegade"

http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=10619737

Here is my latest.  Comments welcome.

For the gear heads:

This is my first recording with my newest amp, a 1977 Marshall 100 watt MKII Super Lead head.

I used mostly my PRS guitar except for the lead at 2:00 which was begging for my '62 Strat.  Everything is straight into the Marshall head and I use a THD Hotplate between the head and 1960A cabinet.  Miked with an SM58.

Hey thanks Charlie, I appreciate the comments.  No Les Paul in here though, it's the PRS and the Strat.

Hi Mark, it's always a pleasure to hear your guitar playing and this one's no exception. Lots of interesting things happening and great sounds. I thought that PRS sounded very nice indeed in a modern way , but for me the highlight is that Strat . Sounds almost three-dimensional if you know what I mean .

Thanks Rik, I agree about the strat.  There is no greater tone than a classic strat hooked up to a classic Marshall amp.

No problems Charlie.  I remember way back when, when It was either a strat or a gibson and you could easily pick them out.

I don't think we've ever discussed it but either you are an asntronomy buff or a Sci-Fi fan, based on all your song titles.  I've been both since a kid.

Some hot licks here over some challenging chord changes, not difficult changes, but certain some challenge in improvising over those chords.

    Very cool.

Talkin' my language there, Mark... cool stuff.  Some really nice lead runs.  I tend to focus on your melody/lead playing, but I think it's worth mentioning that there was some dynamite rhythm guitar work under all that!

Thanks Phil.  That beginning rhythm lick is what started the whole song.  I started noodling with it on the new amp and the rest just kinda followed.

Very nice indeed.  Love the tones.  I'm not much for dropping names from the guitar world but your tones/playing reminded me of Eric Johnson.

I also liked what you did at the fade-out at the end.

Nice sound, Mark.  Some very neat workings.  It would be easy for something like this to be muddled but it's not at all.  As always great guitar work.  That sound at 1:55 (and earlier) is so nice!

    Hi there Mark

Having been suffering 'Safe Mode' and therefore no audio for over a month on my old PC, I'm finally up and running on my new machine so I decided it's time to catch up on some songs.

And wow - what a terrific place to start catching up!

Thank you Mike.  The only effects on the guitar is a bit of delay in Sonar, otherwise straight guitar and amp.  Thanks for the compliments!

Thanks James!  Not me on the drums (I wish) just loops, but some pretty good loops.  Thanks for the comment on the thing at :34.  I tried real hard on this tune to break out of my usual licks and forced myself to makeup some new stuff.  In some places it worked and that was one of them.  On the outro I tried all kinds of things and this just kind of accidentally happened - I was goofing around with some tapping in A# (song is in A) and liked it and thought aha, I'll modulate up a sharp and fade out with that tap thingy.

Some excellent guitar work in here, especially in the middle part.  The kick drum seems a bit busy to me.  Feels just a little choppy in parts due to the kick, imo.  Good job.

as ever this is superb. catchier than your last one, the rhythm guitar by itself could just be listened to! the leads are tasteful and just flashy enough, if you know what i mean....agree the Strat solo section is v. good! almost ended too quick though!
