Rock/ Pop/ Metal Drum Loops

Hi guys, it's been years since i've been around here. I usually use live drummers but i'm looking to get back into being self suffucient, at least while recording fun covers.

I'm tired of programming drums on piano roll. What are some good Drum Loop companies that have well organized grooves and fills for contemporary rock, metal and pop? I don't need any dance or hip hop. I'm using Sonar Platinum ....for all i know Sonar might have these lol ....not sure.

Thanks

And Groove Monkey has some good Midi drum loops that work with most drum programs. And some come as whole songs.

You can use the MIDI patterns you get with Sonar and Addictive Drums 2 to generate your own drum loops with SI Drums, Session Drummer 3, and Addictive Drums 2.

For audio loops, I've never found anything better than the loop libraries from Discrete Drums. The one by Chris McHugh is particularly good but so is Greg Morrow's...actually they're all outstanding.

To hear them in context go to craiganderton.com and click on the Music tab. All the songs there (except for the last two songs on side 1) use Discrete Drums loops.

The first 3 books in "The Musician's Guide to Home Recording" series are available from Hal Leonard and http://www.reverb.com. Listen to my music on http://www.YouTube.com/thecraiganderton, and visit http://www.craiganderton.com. Thanks!

Nice work Craig. Nice drum.sound. Actually the songs I listened to sound huge. Lots of space for everything. Big soundstage.

I went to the music site on my mobile phone and all the music on side one was one after the other and the names of the songs were all together in one space. IOW I couldn't tell which name went to what song.

EZD2 had a user interface that really helps turn midi loops you have/buy into what you want/need and still sound like a drummer played it. For that alone, for me, it's a keeper.

Hey man,I use midi loops for drums for most of my songs,I write indie, punk, rock, post hardcore and a mix of those together.I have tried all the companies and toontrack has the best most expansive midi libraries especially for metal and rock.

I know its a long road, and its taken me many years but I've built my own personal Midi drum library.
The problem with generic drum loops is they are never going to be tailored for your song.
Sure you can get it close but creating your own loops takes a while to get used. but once you start getting good at it... Im telling you, you will become very, very good at it and also very fast at creating these parts.

Thanks for the heads-up, the site doesn't scale very well...I'll see if I can figure out a way to make it better. For the record, the songs that use MIDI drums are Daughter and Maladie Du Coeur. FWIW on my next album, I'm also using some drums from Sony's "Drums from the Big Room," and Ilio's "Skippy's Noizbox," which is more twisted.

Also the drums in On Mars and Empath are from my Turbulent Filth Monsters library, which is highly processed versions of Greg Morrow's Discrete Drums loops. I always find it easier to get expressive drum sounds with audio loops compared to MIDI, but I do chop them up quite a bit to add variations.

Addictive Drums 2 is packaged with Platinum and is great. What I particularly like is the ability to audition loops in the context of the song until you find one that fits, rather than having to load the midi file into the project one by one until you find one that works.
