Unfortunately, this is what happened when they started inducting 5 to 12 performers from the start. Eventually they ran out of truly influential acts that were truly rock and roll. Chic and Janet Jackson? Really? I hope I'm dead and stinking before they get to Justin Bieber.

There's a few there that I can't believe aren't already IN the Hall. Then there are these. How the heck did they get on the list? A hacker maybe? I mean, Tupac Shakur? Janet Jackson? Bad Brains? MC5? Chaka Khan? Chic?

How I'd vote, based on rock 'n roll-ness, longevity, innovativeness and overall influence on other musicians. Tupac Shakur NO. Not rock 'n roll. Janet Jackson NO. ditto. Joan Baez NO. ditto Bad Brains Who? Yes YES, and about time! ELO ABSOLUTELY Pearl Jam YES The Zombies YES. Respect for keyboard players before it was cool J. Geils Band NO. A one-hit-wonder. Huge hit, yes, but there's just the one Steppenwolf YES. Ground-breaking proto-metal Journey YES. If only for longevity, but also a damn good rock band MC5 MAYBE. Influenced a lot of people, or so I'm told Shaka Khan NO. Quality sappy pop, but not rock 'n roll Chic NO. Endless respect for Mr. Rogers and company, but it's not the "disco hall of fame" Kraftwerk YES. Maybe it's not rock 'n roll but they influenced many rock 'n rollers The Cars YES. Sophisticated, inventive productions that influenced the way records are made Depeche Mode YES. Poppy but musically inventive Feel free to disagree!

craigb There's a few there that I can't believe aren't already IN the Hall.
If you didn't know, Yes isn't in the hall because Rolling Stone impresario and Hall founder Jann Wenner hates prog and doesn't believe it's "rock music" the way, you know, Patsy Cline had such a big influence on rock that she was inducted many years ago. IOW the Hall is a joke and not to be taken seriously as meaningful of anything.
In order, then, to discover the limit of deepest tones, it is necessary not only to produce very violent agitations in the air but to give these the form of simple pendular vibrations. - Hermann von Helmholtz, predicting the role of the electric bassist in 1877.

I wouldn't call them groundbreaking, but those guys can write and arrange some incredible pop music, consistently. As for the Hall of Fame, they're abusing the term rock and roll. It's clear that they've turned into the "popular music hall of fame". Reminds me of when we went to San Diego and slept at the so-called Hard Rock Café Hotel. The decoration and all the stuff hanging on the wall might have been rock and roll, but the music in the bar, the crowd and the music they played at their pool party the next morning definitely wasn't. On a rock and roll scale of one to Lemmy, being awoken by a rave party at 11 on a Sunday morning doesn't even register. A bit like that genius and his friends who like to destroy classic Queen and wear classic heavy metal t-shirts...

http://www.iheart.com/news/15-bands-snubbed-by-the-rock-15215005/ I can think of many more, but this list shows how ridiculous the RnR HOF really is. Just how many more platinum albums and sold out tours some bands on that list need before the idiots at the HOF wake up? Shouldn't be too long before Magic Johnson or even Beyonce gets inducted in the National Hockey League Hall of Fame.

Just missing this year's list and a likely shoe-in for next year is Ernie Nergebaum, or Duh as he will be better known. Granted, he won't be born for a few more years and he never will learn to play an instrument, have any sense of rhythm, or be able to recognize a tune as it's being carried past him, but that shouldn't be a problem for the Hall.

Each time you clone a clone, there's a qualitative loss or degradation. Based upon Mr. Bieber's genetic characteristics, it would appear that human cloning was invented prior to 273 A.D.

Hi, Strange list ... again! Tupac Shakur. Kinda 50/50 on this, but he did have a few more meaningful set of words, than most rap out there. Janet Jackson. Money and ego. Nothing else! Really sad to see this listed amidst the rest. Joan Baez. Not surprised to see her listed, however, this might be more of a sentimental voice of things, than anything else. I doubt she will get 5 votes. She's as liked and disliked as Yoko sometimes, but she does have a voice in folk music, and specially the political side of it. Yes. The most shameless of all, will likely get in this year, but they should have been in while Chris Squire was still alive, because he would have shed a few tears on the stage in front of all of us. ELO. I like to see them win something, and finally see that whole lilst of musicians appreciated, even going as far back as Roy Wood, whose solo work, was not only fun, but ultimately crazy and satisfying. Put on "Eddie and the Falcons" ... Pearl Jam. I'm OK with this. The Zombies. If anything, the musicians in that band went on to many things, which kinda says something about their work. But in the end, nominated for one or two songs? J. Geils Band. Over rated! Steppenwolf. As possibly one of the bigger voices of our generation at the time, it is never too late to put on that album and appreciate "Born to be Wild" and "The Pusher". Journey. Can I fall asleep now? Just hit songs, and to my tastes ... just hit songs. MC5. For what? Loudest band ever? Chaka Khan. Heck, why not do Ella Fitsgerald and Mrs. Respect? Kraftwerk. Not the ultimate thing from Germany, but they helped familiarize everyone with the synthesizer music, and made it fun. But that's like saying that the Pineapple Symphony from an earlier album was not fun, and it was. Should not happen before Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze. Or Can and Amon Duul 2.
Music is not about notes and chords! My poem is not about the computer or monitor or letters! It's about how I was able to translate it from my insides!

Seriously? Janet Jackson? Wow..... Who the hell is on the nominee committee? Are there any actual musicians? I think they need to take into account how influential the bands/artists are they put in the HOF. I can see 2-Pac. He had a huge influence on the rappers of today. But how many bands claim Janet Jackson as a major influence on their music? Although I can pretty much guarantee that bands like the Pixies, the Smiths, the Cure, Sonic Youth, New Order, etc. could give a rat's ass about the HOF, bands such as these have been quoted by other bands as being major influences on them. The whole thing is just ridiculous. It's just a popularity contest now. Glad ELO got recognized though. ~

bitflipper Most make sense, while some make you wonder just how they define "rock 'n roll" in Cleveland.
Read here how nominees are chosen: https://www.rockhall.com/inductees/induction-process "Ballots are then sent to more than 600 historians, members of the music industry and artists—including every living Rock Hall inductee—and the five performers receiving the most votes become that year's induction class. Beginning in 2012, fans were given the chance to vote for the nominees they'd like to see inducted into the Rock Hall. The top five vote-getters in the public poll form one ballot, which is weighted the same as the rest of the submitted ballots."

Here are the winners: NWA was just inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! (Really?????????) I didn't even see them nominated anywhere... (The above list missed Joe Tex (who?) and Jane's Addiction who were nominated.) Yes, the Cars, Journey and ELO were among the actual Rock and Roll bands that missed out (again). At least Deep Purple finally made it in along with Cheap Trick, Chicago, Steve Miller and Bert Berns (who???). What a joke.
