    cool sounding tune.

it will be a treat to hear this done.

phasing in the prechorus..... maybe intentional.

a little rough in places but for WIP not bad.

What are you hearing phasing?  Is it the guitars doing that harmonic part?

WIP?  Not familiar with the abreviation.

    WIP = work in progress.

There was phasing ....at least that what it sounded like, on the whole song in the pre chorus...

    I'll listen again closer.

Maybe not.... just the frequencies that were accentuated.... I guess....  It could also have been a result of the MP3 conversion process..... I've had that mess up more than one of my songs uploaded in the past.

    ChuckC,

I like where you are going.  On my computer speaker station, the mix sounds distorted compared to other forum songs I am listening too.  Mixed too hot?

Love the performances and the tune. As a person in the process of learning how to get the mud out of the mix, I must say in all honesty, though all the instruments have a really great timbre to my ears and sound very nicely recorded still some mud though. Perhaps too much limiter? Still I certainly appreciate the tune and passion in the performances as is.

There's something weird going on in the chorus with the hi hat or something. I'm on the cans now so I would need to listen again on the monitors.

I like the song a lot. Good luck with it.

    Well done!

Thank you guys, there seems to be a consensus that something wierd is going on in the high end.... I'll get on it!
And yeah... it seems I am pushing the comp and limiter too damn hard for the sake of the loudness wars issue and leaving the song forsaken. More work to do tomorrow.  Spent tonight tracking my other guitarists parts for the next couple songs for the album and drinking beer.... I am in no shape to mix right now!

Hey Chuck awesome song!  I really like the harmonies and the change in dynamics during the song.

As far as the mix, I it might be your dynamics processing causing the oddites.  It really sounds hyper compressed.  I dont know how many compressors you have in your chain but if you are only using 1, trying using a couple in a row.

Example - Instead of having 1 compressor compress 4 DB, try having 2 compressers in a row, both set to compress 2 DB each.  It should help with that "my compressor is about to explode" effect.  You can also fiddle with the attack in release being different on each.  Then throw your limiter at the end of that chain.

Good luck, hopefully some of the forum engineer guru's can help you out further, I'de like to check this out when the mix is fixed.  I really dig the tune

Much cleaner instruments sound great to me now. I think possible the vox could come up just a bit. Great job.

Thank you Ohgrant, I was working on these to mixes for about 6.5 hours last night, then remastered (which is so much easier when the mix is right!).

Everything sounds much better! The vox, as mentioned, need to come up.

Gp- Fixed in the latest version, update to come.  I also backed off the limiter to let it breathe a bit more.  I am going to take a day or 2 down time.  I've probably got 25 hours on these 2 songs in the past week, it's incredible how much time you can put into a song after the tracking is done.  Each step, each tweak makes it just a little better.  but added up I am getting somwhere in the ballpark of a "pro sound".  I am sure a "pro" would get there a helluva lot faster though.
