Rockabilly Willy Needs A Rockabilly Filly

Well WMNF Community Radio's Rockabilly Ruckus has come and gone -- and -- a wonderful time was had by all.  During the Big Sandy and the Fly-Rite Boys set, Big Sandy introduced Marshall Lytle (Slap-Belly Bass player for Bill Haley and the Comets) who at 85 years old played bass and sang a couple of numbers that brought down the house.  A standing ovation was given by all the kids and curmudgeons in attendance.  Rockabilly Ruckus also got me off my duff to do a real rockabilly-ish number.  It must be rockabilly because it uses the word in the title ;>)  Like most rockabilly numbers it's not supposed to be a thought provoking work of art but only rhythmic and fun.  Hopefully, I have gotten somewhere close to that.

I hope it gives you a bit of a giggle and as usual your comments, suggestions, crit's, etc. will be most appreciated.

Thanks.

Some classic rockabilly riffs for sure.  It's got the raw late 50s vibe.  I seem to be getting a little clash between the bass and guitar.  Maybe a little EQ bump on the high end of the guitar word pull them apart a tad... but that's a guess.

    Cool.

    Hi Freddy,

Great job, man. Very cool song and groove. I really like that rhythm guitar part that is panned to the right...very nice.

Love those cool little harmonics, too. Always great to hear you.

This is a good piece. It has the feel that makes you want to move. The guitar sounds are fresh and the bass drives. Nice work. Regards, Lance

Whenever my wife hears me listening to one of your tunes Freddy, she always says the same thing - why are you listening to that, it's so not you? In fairness she has a point generally speaking, but I always say, yeah but this is Freddy and you gotta like Freddy, right ?

    Hey, Freddy,

Very cool rockabilly masterpiece, buddy!  Great vocal and guitar work, and a nice, clean, authentic sounding vintage style mix.  I really love the cool, laid back vibe of the guitar solo and the tasty little guitar fills in the last verses.

    Excellent job, my friend!

I  apologize for my delay in responding to your comments.  My trusty companion of the past 8 years finally has left me.  My computer finally quit and passed on to its final demise.  I guess that now I'm going to have to relent and purchase a new one.  I managed to borrow my son's laptop for a few minutes this evening but he gets nervous at my inability on the computer and I know that my time will be limited.

Hi Robby:  No doubt about it!  As a wee little pre-toddler (almost??), I remember the sounds of Carl Perkins, Benny Joy, etc. and was loving the music.   I'm glad that you enjoyed it!!  Thanks.

Hey Daryl:  Thanks for pointing that out ---  little panning might help also.  Thanks for the feedback and thanks for listening.

Hello Mark: Thank you my friend.  I appreciate the kind words  --- you are most kind.

Thank you Jimmy.  Not being a drummer the drum parts always concern me.  Thanks for listening and commenting.

Thank you Gary:   I had a lot of fun doing this one and I'm glad that you liked it.

Thank you Lance:  Ya, rockabilly is all about rhythm (as Carl Perkins always would sing about in his songs) and rhythm is supposed to get you moving.  Thanks for listening and commenting.

Hey Lynn:  Thanks for taking the time to listen and for the kind comments.

Thank you Bapu:  I'm very glad that you enjoyed it.  Thanks for commenting.

Hi Paulo.  My wife hears my stuff and immediately walks out of the room.  Even though my stuff "is so not you"  I'm glad that you take the time to listen and I appreciate your kind comments.

Hey Grant.  I am thrilled that you liked it!!!  Thanks for listening.

Hello Frank and thanks!!  I am stoked by your chatter --- crazy man crazy!!

Hi Kenny:  Not not live but I really like to try and get that feel.  Thanks!!!

Hello Bob!  Carl Perkins had kind of a laid back "slow- fast" lead style and I was experimenting with that.  Thanks for your kind comments buddy!

Scotty  ---- aren't you nice.  Thanks for listening and thanks a bunch for the very nice comments.

Oooops, my son is coming to get his computer --- gotta go.

Freddy, I love those raw guitars, great tones. A rollicking, fun song, had my girl up and dancing, a practice I try to avoid but she looks good doing it. And what more could you want from a song?

Hello Mark.  It got you up and dancing --- that's terrific!!  It would take a bleedin' forklift to get me up and out on the dance floor (I'm most definitely not a good dancer).  I really am pleased that you liked it and thanks for the kind words.

Fun tune, and well played to be sure.  Kinda' reminded me of the days when I had to sing thru a guitar amp with a spring reverb    Good stuff, Freddy.

You are hangin' in there Freddy.  I know where Paulo's coming from. I tell my wife to "get ready, it's Freddy" and she smiles.  You do capture the old style somehow and keep it relevant.   Fun stuff, Fredster!!

First of all my apologies for taking so long to respond to the last comments on this song.  My tried and true, faithful computer for the last 8 years has passed on to its rewards.  Unfortunately, it took a lot of my files with it.  To complicate things it has taken me over 5 weeks to get my new computer delivered.  We (the new computer and I) have introduced ourselves but now we are trying to develop our relationship.  This is not easy with someone as technologically handicapped as is yours truly.  This whole process has been complimented by the fact that I am now relying on a new sound card (E-Mu 0404 --- I had tried the M-Audio 192 but it does not have the PCIe connectors and that is all my system accepts).  Developing my relationship with the new sound card has been most difficult of all.  The PatchMix program has been very confusing to me and my limited knowledge, and trying to get Sonar X1 and this system to communicate has been challenging.  I am still trying to get MIDI functions to cooperate.  Anyway, didn't someone say challenges only make us stronger.

Getting back to the point of this response ---  Bub, eric paul, and twisted6s,  thank you for taking the time to listen and to respond.  I appreciate your kind comments.  Again my apologies for taking so long to respond.
