Roland Duo-Capture EX vs Quad Capture

Roland has just released a new audio interface, the Duo-Capture EX. (not to be confused with the old Duo-Capture)

The main difference I can see between this and the more expensive Quad-Capture is the Quad has co-axel digital in and out.

If I don't need the digital in and out is there anything else I would be missing if I went for the Duo-Capture EX.

Intel i7 3770K @4.4GHz, 32GB RAM, 240GB SSD System disk, 2 x 2TB and 1 x 1TB (with SSD Cache) HDD. Windows 10,  Sonar Platinum. Roland Quad Capture.

i would think the coax in/out would be the primary selling point.

    Yes this.

It's only really a concern though if you need the 2 digital inputs and outputs.

The preamps are the same and I'm pretty sure everything else is aside from the digital I/O.

Autosens is only a concern if you have difficulty turning an input level knob.

One thing I do like about the quad though is that it has an internal Main Mix out channel which it's possible to loop back into the input channel.  I use that quite a bit so that would be a major minus for me if that wasn't implemented on the Duo although that probably wouldn't be concern for most.  Also bear in mind the sample rates available are only 44.1 and 48 kHz also.

    Fuller specs are here now.

Looking at the prices that dealers have got up so far for initial launch though there doesn't look to be enough of a cost saving over the Quad for it to be worthwhile.  I'm sure they will drop after release though.

yep - I missed the sample rate.

Hopefully they will have the PDF manual available for download soon.

As you say the price difference is not that great. Both Gear4Music and Digital Village have the Quad for £189 and the Duo for £149
The Duo's iPad compatibility may be a selling point for some but not me.
