Roland GR-20 and SONAR X1 - pitch bend range

I have  Roland GR-20 synth and a Godin Freeway-SA, which has a built in pickup which tracks nice and fast with internal GR-20 sounds, including pitch bends. I can also use it to drive soft synth sounds such as dimension pro, rapture LE in SONAR X1. Tracking here is also nice and fast.

But I cant get any pitch bend to happen.

I have read past forum messages saying this should be possible,  just change the pitch bend range so the GR-20 matches. I believe the range sent by the GR-20 is +/-2, but the default SONAR expects is +/- 24.

Can someone tell me how to change the pitch bend range that SONAR X1 expects?
I know it is something to do with the piano roll view , and inserting CC100=0, CC101=1 and then CC06=x, where x gives the number of semitones of pitch change. But I dont know how to add these CC values, in the piano roll or anywhere else.

thx

I'm afraid I don't have an answer for you but page 29 of my GR-20 manual says: "Specifying the Bend Range - Since the GR-20 transmits Pitch Bend data based on a bend range of 24, you must set your sound module to a bend range of ±24. For details on making this setting, refer to the manual for your sound module". This probably doesn't help much.

I figured this out - at least partly.

I got nowhere with my first attempt, when I edited in the event window to add CC100=0, CC101=0, CC06=x, I got ... silence.

Then I looked harder at a specific soft-synth, to see if there was a way to set pitch bend there.

Using Dimension Pro, it has an option called "Midi Matrix".

I fiddled with it... and found by trial and error that I needed to set "Pitch Bend", "Pitch All",  to 2400 ( using the mouse to scroll the integer value, yuck).

And this works, so now I know it can be done, and it is quite nice.
So now my trusty GR-20 has a new lease of life driving soft-synths,  no need to rush out and buy a GR-55 just yet!

But this is just a partial fix. I need to do this menu hack every time I change a sound on Dimension Pro, and that is going to get old very quickly.

Now I need to figure out a mode that says "keep pitch bend at 2400 " for all sounds in this session. Maybe there are text config files for Dimension Pro "under the hood" I can go edit.

    Thanks for posting back.

I was interested in this so I started fiddling too. In the Depth column of the Midi Matrix, left click on the number and then drag the mouse up or down and the value will quickly scroll to +/- 2400. Or maybe that's what you meant by "using the mouse to scroll", in which case you can thank me for another 'non-answer' !
