I took the advice of many on these forums and purchased the Octa-Capture. I haven’t had much time to play with it yet but coming from an old Creative X-Fi Elite pro all I can say is WOW! After I get my new music system up and running (new Intel i7 machine, OS Win7, Sonar X1 Studio-coming from Sonar 5.2, Octa-Capture along with installing software) I’ll be able to better evaluate it. But it is already a winner in my book. Thanx all for your help!

Hi, I desperately need to know how to change the sample rate from 48hz to 96. Didnt find on the manual and am sort of a newbie at this. BTW, owned E-mu, M-audio, Tc Electronics Impact Twin, will never look back after this Cakewalk Octa Capture. Best sound ever? I have a Benchmark DAC-1 also, and it blows it away. thanks in advance for the replies.

Press and hold the [DISPLAY] button for one second to access the system setting (UTILITY) screen. 2. Turn the [CURSOR/VALUE] knob to move the cursor to “SAMPLE FREQ.” 3. Press the [CURSOR/VALUE] knob to highlight the value. 4. Turn the [CURSOR/VALUE] knob to change the setting. 5. Press the [CURSOR/VALUE] knob to confirm the setting. 6. Switch off the OCTA-CAPTURE’s power, then turn it back on again (p. 31).

I'm using a UA25-Ex and need more inputs so I'm looking at the Octa-Capture. My plan would be to permanently wire my mic's in the back and use the front for guitar. I'm using Windows XP on a laptop, HS7XL.Usually record at 44.1 16 bit just because that's what I'm used to. Here comes the stupid question.... will the Octa- Capture work with this system? I see every post about it is Windows & 64 bit. (I'm new and learning this stuff) I'm sure it would be "backwards compatible to XP but I'd like to hear it from someone. If it does work I could unload my UA25-EX, my Aphex 107 preamp, and my Alesis 3630 compressor and get some real estate back in the "studio". What do you think? More info in my signature.

Hi Mario I currently have a Creative X-FI Elite pro and I think it's been the cause of my BSOD for many years now. I'm thinking about upgrading to either an Octa-Capture or a Babyface. Can you tell me how the Octa compares with the Elite? You seem to be finding it to be a lot better ('WOW'!) Have you kept the Elite on your system? I occasionally like to play a game and/or use the Elite for movies, which doesn't provide any issues. This is probably a dumb question, but can you use the Octa for such things? I mostly use soft synths/Maschine in my projects with a bit of recorded voice via my sp/dif'ed Joe Meek twin Q Studio channel. I would want to, via coaxial, link it out to the Octa, and then link the Octa out to my receiver. Have you tried using the coaxial in/outs? (I'm liking the Babyface for it's digital in/outs and it seems that other are finding the latter quite low in terms of latency). Appreciate any thoughts here. Cheers

Regarding recording/playback at different sample rates, Roland has released version 1.5 driver for the Octa-Capture, this allows auto syncing of the sample rate to the project you have open in Sonar. i.e. you don't have to manually change the sample rate on the Octa-Capture, it will change automatically once you open your project and without a reboot of either Sonar or the Octa-Capture.

Regarding former post, I did mean version 1.5 of the Firmware as well as updating the driver. It is the firmware update that gives the ability to auto detect and change the sample rate on the Octa-Capture.

I've been turning off and on a computer (my old one) for at least 6 years now, and never had a problem with the electronics or anything in the computer (except a graphics card grease getting the card to overheat in which case I bought a new graphics card). I have a newer computer and turn it off and on every day and never have a problem with that computer either. As to playing movies or games I use my RME Babyface for everything. It does not have surround sound, but I gave that up also when I had it in my stereo and just do stereo anyway for anything. If I need surround I guess I have to look into that, but as for me, stereo is enough (don't know about RME drivers in that case) and with the Babyface all I can do I think is stereo with the drivers. Don't see any surround drivers like the old Creative sound card (not an audio/interface) to record with, and well the old Creative Sound card was not good for recording anyway, not good at all and it was not a great card anyway. I don't know about other RME products, but those can be looked up at their website and read about. I don't actually look to read anything about surround though either anymore.
