Roland Octa-Capture Question

I'm really looking hard at the Octa-Capture, but I am not finding out if it is possible to bypass the preamps or not... If this is possible I would like to know how... Thanks

I am currently using the Edirol M16DX (I have a few other interfaces but I use those for my live rigs). I tried using other preamps but it seems for me to get enough gain and I have to turn up the input which in turn seems to introduce a hiss from the eq which I can't seem to bypass either...

Etc.....Etc….

I have a couple of Octa-Captures so I will take a stab at trying to answer you here. There is no explicit bypass switch on the preamps but you can just eliminate any gain from them if you want. I do this for true line level inputs. They are very quiet.

That said, I have a Waldorf Blofeld with a pretty low output level that I boost with the pre-amps on my Octa-Capture. I don't get any noise by doing that. You can set up any channel to have a noise gate. I have a Juno 106 that has a line level output but is just noisy so I set my threshold to -55dB and that fixes everything for me.

Are you worried that the pre-amps on the Octa-Capture are going to add noise? Excuse me if my reply misses the mark for you. Just trying to address what I was assuming you might be trying to do.

    Inaheartbeat,

Thanks for your reply you got my point exactly. I have several preamps and I want to make sure (especially my Focusrite Isa one can be used without the octa's pre's colouring the sound at all)

Or see my post on using the Octa-Capture with Sonar in detail including setup issues in:

I think you will find the information a bit more succinct.

I think that I only notice some HISS when using phantom power and when the gain is WAY UP high. But I have external pre-amps and use the phantom power with those and don't need to turn the gain up that high on the OCTA PUSS.

My daughter in Germany bought a Quad-Capture and is using it with a Macbook and Reason. She is very much impressed with it's performace.
