Roland Quad Capture Playback Failure - "I Am So Dumb (Hide your wife/Hide your kids)"
I have done some thing utterly stupid, and can't figure wtf I did. Last night, I had my brand new Roland Quad capture all set up. I was recording vocal in one channel, guitar in another. I had a MIDI drum track, routed to a Cakewalk TTS1 synth, and that in turn routed to Master. And I heard it all thru the Roland headphones: guitar, vocal, and drum track. Today, I try again, I CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING COMING OUT THE ROLAND. I have no idea what I did. The MIDI/TT1/Master all show the durms merrily playing away, but no sound. Master output is set to Stereo Quad Capture 3-4. Guitar Audio input to Left Quad Capture 1-2 Vocal Audio input to Right Quad Capture 1-2 I can see they are recording, but can't hear them on playback. I'm betting it's a Setting I've screwed up. Playback Timing Master is set to Quad Capture 3-4 Record Timing Master to Quad Capture Main (but I've set it to others with no effect) ASIO, no dither 24 bit, 48kHz I've tried using another synth, nothing. I KNOW this dumbville, but I swear, I can't figure it out. And now frustration has taken over. Help!

Quad Capture channels 3-4 are digital outputs using SPDIF connectors. If you re-route those outputs to 1-2 it should fix the problem.

And so it did. Thanks. I guess in my naivete, I somehow thought that if the inputs were coming in on 1-2, then the outputs would be best to go out by another route. I've never used SPDIF, I'll have to look it up and see what it does :) Thanks again

No problemo, I have the same interface and made the same mistake.

I love it! Sound is great, it really was easy to set up (the first time ), and makes crystal-clean recordings. Precisely what I wanted. I'm glad I went ahead and paid the extra $$.

ampfixer No problemo, I have the same interface and made the same mistake. Actually I've found on W7 there is the odd occasion where the output has changed by itself to 3-4 after a reboot. It's the first place for me to check for no audio output as a result.

That happened to me with my MOTU setup (PCI424). I had to disable the WDM drivers so that windows doesn't try to take over the audio card and switc hstuff around on me. You can also just try disabling the drivers in the control panel Sound manager on the "playback devices" and "record devices" tabs, though when I did that, every once and a while windows will re-enable them. I just went ahead and disabled the WDM streaming drives in the device manager. At least with MOTU, its a separate driver for WDM so its easy to disable it. Not sure how Roland does it drivers.

Same way as far as I can see. I might try that if it ever becomes a real annoyance thanks.

I am so happy with the quad capture. Its fast and its so solid. I did the 3-4 thing but as you know this can be rerouted. How could it be better? Dunno
