Roland TTS1 - Latency Issues

Hey all,

First time poster here.

I need assistance, as I have tried every possible solution. Im trying to use the TTS-1 in realtime, and the delay/latency is really bad. I use alot of soft synths, and the only one I have problems with is the TTS-1. Acctually, when I try to change the buffer size or latency, for a brief moment, I can play the TTS-1 with virtually no latency. But, when I hit play on the sequencer, its back to a horrible 1/2 second delay when I play the TTS-1 through my midi keyboard. It is driving me nuts, and Ive also optimized my OS for Audio Production (Win XP Pro). Im thinking that it might be something so small of a detail that I am overlooking, but I doubt it. Any suggestions ? -

    Hi JP,

You say it only happens when you hit play in Sonar. That would imply that you have other tracks with synths, effects etc... going on in other tracks... right?

To me it sounds like you are using a synth or effect that has a built in latency - and it tells Sonar just how much - which might be just about 1/2 second...
I think that will make Sonar use more buffering (and thus increase latency) to make sure everything stays in sync at playback...

Take something like Perfect Space - in the plugin settings you can actually set the buffering size, which should be set to whatever your audio card is set to - if it is set smaller than your audio card it produces a jiggy sound - if larger it imposes latency....

Well, that is just an idea - do tell what you find out!

Its wierd. In this particular instance, the TTS-1 is the only soft synth loaded. I just needed a basic music box sound for a track Im doing for someone. Its sparse instrumentation (3-4 audio tracks & only 1 soft synth such as the TTS1) - With the MIDI Data entered, the playback is just fine, bu when Im acctually triggering the synth with my keyboard in real time, there is that 1/2 second delay. As I mentioned, when I mess around and change the latency or buffer settings, I can physicaly play the TTS-1 on my keyboard and there is no latency (as long as I dont trigger the sequncer). When I start the sequencer, Im back in 1/2 second delay hell.

I just recently got my new system, and Ive only encountered this issue with the TTS-1 with this new system. I didnt have this problem before on my old one (at least not that I remember) - The TTS-1 is a great tool to get down and work on arrangments really quick, and I want to use it with no latency as I had in the past. If its true that the synth has built in latency, how come it worked fine on my old system, and not on my new one ? - I have a super powerful system, I just dont get it.

I have a whole bunch of soft synths/sample libraries, and they work fine. What is the deal with this damn TTS-1 ?

    Hi JP,

If you are using WDM drivers you could also take a look in the audio settings to see if the internal buffer that Sonar uses (it's a slider) is set at a high value...
