For some people looking for some quick advice of workflow and mixing, this is a great video. Thanks, Brandon! Thanks for the compliment. And yeah, even if this may be knowledge I already have, it's refreshing to see that if there's something he does more efficiently that I can import into my workflow. I also like the battery operation of the interface and using an iPad to record. Not a bad idea.

Hi Brandon,all my compliments for your precision and competence.
I have a question for you.
I just have seen the Studio\Sonar record session (fantastic video!!) and the band was monitored by headphones in real time i believe.
If is true,the Studio Capture latency value was very short,2\3 ms i think......
I have just bought the last SOS and there is a Studio Capture review,and the only bad rating is on latency performance.
The reviewer almost mocks the Roland for its phrase :"the industry-leading low latency USB performance"!!
Can you give me your opinion?

Really appreciated seeing this video. Brandon always delivers new ideas and matter of fact technique.
Two internal 2TB SSDs laptop stuffed with Larry's deals and awesome tools. Studio One is the cat's meow as a DAW now that I've migrated off of Sonar. Using BandLab Cakewalk just to grab old files when migrating songs.

Don't know if this is the correct place to post this question or not, but quick "help" is needed.
I ordered a Studio Capture today. I'm currently running SONAR X2a Producer and I'm trying to get a definitive answer to the following questions;
1) I'm using a Cakewalk UM-3g for my MIDI interface ... does the Studio Capture eliminate the need for this device entirely?
2) I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 as an audio interface ... does the Studio Capture eliminate the need for this device entirely?
3) I'm using a Mackie 1402VLZ Pro to route all instrument signals ... can I totally replace this device with the Studio Capture routing software?
The video by Brandon is awesome and I've drawn the conclusion from it the USB based MIDI and Audio interface on the Studio Capture eliminate those device needs and obviously from the video SONAR X2a will handle all tracks routed vis-a-vis the Studio Capture software ... am I right or wrong? Please tell me I'm right!
I'd be thrilled if there's an affirmative answer to all 3 questions ...
Please Help!

I don't know about number three but it will do 1 and 2. It looks like a beast.
I'm waiting for mine to arrive with baited breath. One tip from "konrad" in the other part of the forum is to shut down "auto power down" when you first get it because that can screw with things.

Thanks "backwoods" for the response ... I just was reading-up on the "Auto Power Down" feature and I'll be sure to turn that feature off immediately ... with regard to "number 3" in my initial post, I can't see where I'd need the Mackie any longer when I can plug any "mic'd instruments and/or vocalists", directly into the Studio Capture and use the Studio Capture's software to route to SONAR X2a. I just wanted to be more clear on my question and objective (I re-read my post and thought it was a bit vague on Number 3). Forgot to add a 4th question, if I may: If using dual monitors (I'm not just yet, but plan to), can I slide all related Studio Capture windows to the 2nd monitor ... I know there's a limitation in SONAR X2a where you can slide any window except the track view ... anybody?

Hey Roberto, Sorry it took me sol long to get back to you. During the video, I was monitoring the band via the STUDIO-CAPTURE's direct monitoring function, so latency was not a factor. The STUDIO-CAPTURE has four separate DSP powered mixers all with zero latency. However you can certainly monitor through SONAR's effects as well. I read the SOS review in question and, while I sincerely love and respect those guys, IMHO it's overstated just a bit. You can run a STUDIO-CAPTURE down to 1.1ms (48 samples) with a total round-trip latency of 7.5ms. This is plenty low for playing softsynths and for monitoring vocals through FX etc. Yes some interfaces, especially some based around PCIe cards will achieve lower RTL, but the fact remains that this is quite low and the question remains - can those interfaces with lower RTL per sample-size reliably run at latencies low enough to see an increase in RTL over the STUDIO-CAPTURE. It should also be noted that, for me, the STUDIO-CAPTURE runs quite stable at low latencies. So another interface might achieve lower RTL at a specific latency, but may not be efficient enough to actually let you run it at that latency. The STUDIO-CAPTURE works well at very low latencies without dropouts, clicks etc. I regularly run the STUDIO-CAPTURE at less than 2ms achieving RTLs always less than 10ms. For me, this presents no real-world problems at all. YMMV. If lower RTL at higher-latencies is of critical importance then some interfaces on the market might be a better choice.

Hey T. Dale, Thanks for the kind words and sorry for getting back to you so late. Here's my best attempts at answering your questions: 1) It should but it depends. The STUDIO-CAPTURE (UA-1610) has one MIDI in/out. The UM-3G has three. If you don't need the extra 2 i/o then the STUDIO-CAPTURE will do the trick. When used together you would have 4 MIDI I/O ports. 2) Yes you would no longer need the Focusrite at all. 3) Very likely you wouldn't need the 1402 anymore. With 16 I/O you can likely plug all your gear directly into the STUDIO-CAPTURE and route it accordingly with the four DSP mixers on board.. You also have 2 headphone jacks with dedicated volume, XLR and TRS Main Outs with dedicated Master Volume. So unless there's something I'm not accounting for, you likely would no longer need your 1402. It's arguable you'd get a cleaer signal as well going direct to STUDIO-CAPTURE as you're passing through less circuitry and cabling overall. Hope this helps. Please let me know if I can answer anything else.

Got mine a couple of days ago and it lives up to it's billing. Wish it was a full rack width wide though. The virtual controls are superb.
