Royal Wedding - Arrrrrggggggghhhhhhh
Am I the only person who couldn't give a flying fart? North Korea is bombing South Korea and the BBC lead the news today by telling us that the happy couple will get hitched in Westminster Abbey - because of its 'intimate' atmosphere. And doesn't it seem just a little anachronistic that as we enter the second decade of the twenty-first century we're still expected to grovel to kings and queens and princes and princesses like we're the supporting cast in some modern day fairy tale. Even more obscene is that half the world won't even get enough to eat today, yet we're expected to join in with 'celebrating' a ridiculously expensive and lavish arranged marriage between two inbred puppets who wouldn't understand the everyday goings on of real life if it popped up and smacked them in the mouth. Bunting anyone?

I agree.... Since they didn't send me an invitation, I won't be attending...or watching.... or even giving the proverbial " "flying gaseous emission".....

Do I detect a hint of the republican in there? I'm sure the fireworks in Korea are just spontaneous expressions of joy on the news of the engagement. Or has Great Britain stopped being the centre of the worlds attention? And if that is true then why haven't I been informed of our changed status?

Since they didn't send me an invitation Herb you don't have your invitation yet? I specifically put you on the reception list myself, I will get on to them and sort this out. I'm sure it's just down to an administration error. One just cannot get reliable staff these days.

Jonbouy Do I detect a hint of the republican in there? Not really mate, it all just seems so out of kilter with what's really happening in the UK and the world at large. The BBC's remit to presenters and news editors is obviously to present all this bull as if we were still in the 1950's. In truth, I expect most of us really don't go in for the flag-waving and commemoration mugs in this day and age. My feelings and opinions are not really republican per se, but more borne out of an apathetic cynicism.

I usually go to these gala's, as I'm always invited. However, this is scheduled for April, which falls during my annual holiday in Monte Carlo. I've spoken with the Queen about having those crazy kids reschedule the wedding. I'm awaiting a reply, so I'll keep you posted. Randy

Randy, that may have been a mistake. They'll probably move the wedding to Monte Carlo now. You remember what happened the last time the Queen decided to play Baccarat? I'm not sure MI6 will be able to cover this up again.

Though I've never been there and have no idea what kind of burden they put on the economy, but being a person of English decent, Episcopalian church. I think I would be disappointed if they tossed out the family. I watched a documentary about the Queen a few years ago and it sure seemed that she really earned her keep in her younger days. I hear the families are paying for the wedding, tax payers are paying for just the security. What's a little pomp and pageantry for 100's of years of tradition...

SteveStrummerUK Am I the only person who couldn't give a flying fart? North Korea is bombing South Korea and the BBC lead the news today by telling us that the happy couple will get hitched in Westminster Abbey - because of its 'intimate' atmosphere. We could fix the North/South Korea, radical, and any other security threat problem with 1 bomb and I wish someone would get off their ass in the U.S., England, Russia, or Israel, and do it because you know the second that Korea, or one of the radical countries can hit one of us, they will. Stop taking our troops lives one by one (because that's what they really want) and just end it like we did in Japan. I'm sick and tired of going to bed worrying if I'm going to wake up to NYC or Chicago, LA, London, Moscow, Jerusalem under quarantine for 500 years due to radiological fallout. And doesn't it seem just a little anachronistic that as we enter the second decade of the twenty-first century we're still expected to grovel to kings and queens and princes and princesses like we're the supporting cast in some modern day fairy tale. Don't worry, everything I hear/read on the news says Europe will be overrun by radical groups in 40 ~ 50 years so you won't have to worry about it anymore. The aristocracy will all be beheaded in the name of allen or whatever his name is. To quote probably one of the smartest men of our time, Sam Kinison, on the subject of world hunger, "MOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEE WWWWWHHHHEEEERRREEEEE THE ***KING FOOOOOD ISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. WE'LL GET A UHAUL, PACK YOUR **IT, WE'LL MAKE ONE TRIP! OW OW!!!!!!!" Sometimes the solutions to life's problems are so simple people can't comprehend them.

Hi Bub, I'm thankful that you are a musician and not holding political office. Do you really think the rest of the world is going to stand by while we launch ICBM's at another nation. Do you think that the destructive power of the bomb would be isolated in one country. One launched ICBM would cause a chain reaction probably from China and Russia and it would be curtains for all of us. Sorry if you were joking but sounds like paranoia to me.

Nah, you're not alone Strummy. I don't really care one way or another. If you like that kind of thing then fair enough I guess, and whilst I'm not that bothered what North and South Korea do to each other either - nothing I can do about it - I agree that it's certainly more newsworthy. What I do find most annoying of all about the RW is the bank holiday nonsense. Being self-employed, a bank holiday is nothing more than an enforced day off where I won't get paid. I could of course choose to work those days, but most customers don't want you on their premises on a BH. Also, I feel sorry for all the businesses, especially the smaller ones that now have another day on which they have to pay all their staff for doing nothing - just what they need in these economic times. Furthermore, HMRC also dips out by missing on all the income tax they will miss out from all those who earn nothing that day and the VAT from businesses that are closed. Then there's the cost of the many thousands of civil servants paid from the public purse for a day of doing nothing. Given that we are led to believe that the country needs every penny right now and some of the money saving measures being implimented, this seems a strange decision to say the least. Employees already have at least 20 days paid holiday per year. If they want to take a day off to watch it, then that's up to them - book one of your days off. The general public might say they want the day off if it's an extra, but tell then it's coming out of their existing allowance and I'd wager you'll see how mant really want the day off.

Do you think it will be anywhere near as big a deal as Charles and Diana's wedding was? I'm guessing not, since Diana seemed to be a celebrity even way back then. Although the media has a few more months to make Kate a celebrity, so maybe it will be as big a deal. I watched Diana's wedding AND her funeral, BTW.

I think it will be different, Kate has been hanging with William for quite awhile now but they've managed to keep it fairly low key from the press point of view until now. Whether that's because there is some unwritten arrangement between the press and the palace since this is Diana's son and nobody want's to be seen as the villain of the media by overstepping the mark at the moment remains to be seen. The fact the William is 2nd in line to the throne makes it slightly less important than Charles' wedding in the order of things, but I would imagine the palace would love to give a good impression to the wider world just now so I expect it to be a fairly big show, even if us Brits seem largely non-plussed. Mind you if it ends up being a 'knees up' probably quite a few of us will join in. Any excuse for a party.

What's a 'knees up?' And does anyone know about the possibility of Charles actually becoming king? Seems like a few years ago it was circulating that he would be passed up. Not that it makes a bit of difference to me, but I thought I'd ask, while we're on the subject.
