Ruby...a lady Steve will be meeting soon.

Work has kept me very busy but I wanted to take a few to share
"Ruby". If I don't respond please don't think I'm being rude....just very busy.

She looks like a Strat...but tilted head, Gibson scale...and a long sleek neck.
Some of the things she has said....I can't repeat.

Hopefully I'll be making the nut, finish the wiring and then set her up and check the sound and action.
If she plays and sounds she'll ship  - i'm guessing- around the end of next week. I'll post her leaving then.

Best to you Cakewalkers, hope this gives ya guitar fever!
Michael

Oh yeah, hard maple and mahogany laminated neck- thru, double action truss rod, ebony fretboard, abalone makers, one piece flame maple top, mahogany back body ( Steve hasn't seen the back either- no pic's of that until he plays her)
CTS pots, Seymour Duncan pups ( Danny helped with choice) - vol, tone, blender controls. Bone nut.
Schaller roller bridge ( I think it's top shelf) Gotoh locking tuners.
Oil finish.

Janet it is the first time I've messed with flame maple.
Needless to say but it was a trip and I learned a lot.
Yes it is the natural grain and how one treats it with dye
can have different results-especially at the end grain. That is
also the area that gave me a few issues as it will soak up dye.
It is also the area that will have areas not so pretty.
I believe that may be why we don't see many tops as thick as this one or one piece.
Book matched is most common. ( two piece from a re-saw that has almost mirror look for those that may not know)
From a manufacturer a one piece such as this will usually add a hefty price increase.

It's Friday morning at work and I'm looking forward to this evening- I got the nut ruff cut last night and the strings on her. This eve I'll be fine tuning the nut. If it's not to late when I'm done I'll post a pic of her strung ready to set-up which I'll do Saturday.
Sure looking forward to that- get to hear her...I hope she can sing.

    Stratosteve ?

    And thanks for the kudos!

I have a feeling she'll do more than sing.  I'm thinking she'll also wail, cry, scream, whisper, growl, moan, screech, and sigh.

    Looks fantastic.

    Ruby is ready.

I'm not going to bore ya'll with all the good and bad I had with this build.
It's my fourth completed instrument and I'm not sure I'll ever build one
that I'm satisfied with. There are just to many areas for undesired results, at least
that's my current belief and craftsmanship.

I can say that Ruby plays most excellent...but...in all honesty she is not my style
of guitar. She seems to have known Les Paul - to much for me to be comfortable with her.
The short scale and humbuckers just seem to have that effect on me.

I only hope that it is the guitar that Steve wants and it won't be long now and that will be known.

I'll watch the neck this weekend ( I don't anticipate any movement though) and say my goodbye Monday.
    Hope she likes to fly!

My thanks to Steve, as well as Ed and Grant for having faith in me.
Thanks to all of you here that offered kind words and support. -  Michael
