Rue Toulouse Shuffle - Funky Gumbo

Kind of a Nawlins style Jazzy R&B Funk March Gumbo...

I'm thinking of adding this old tune to the new album...
but I'd love to hear any critical advice... whatcha think?

just uploaded an alternate mix; eq'd some of the sharpedges off my guitar...
bumped up th clavinet, and fattened up the left trumpet a bit...

"Rue Toulouse Shuffle"

Newer, alternate Mix on SoundClick with less compression on the guitars...
also added some thumb popin' licks on the Bass intro..

Man, would I enjoy being in your band! Especially if you know of actual clubs that would let you play this kind of stuff all night.

Sounds like something out of Treme' (HBO Series about musicians in post-Katrina NO).  Excellent performances and some really cool guitar work.  Mix sounded a tad hot to me, but I was listening thru pc speakers, so I may be off on that.  Always enjoy listening to you guys, Frank.

Thanks Phil... you're right that previous mix was a little hot...
I think it sounds better now... The lead guitar may still be a little edgy though...
    Thanks big-time for the feedback...

Sumthins wrong wit this. Can't put a finger on it. (On a laptop).
Sounds a lot more smashed than your other stuff. I Like the track.
The head doesn't seem to fit to me. At least in a recorded environment.
    Live, it prolly kicks Ass.
But, I'm thinkin here (trying not to hurt mysef too much) that maybe the guit head is kickin the bus compressor/limiter to hard which is squashing the track I-rad-ikly.

Actually I love the long drawn out Dothan drawl of the head. Just, the groove ain't wrappin round it like it shoulda.
It ain't the groove's fault. And, it ain't the head's fault. I'm Thinkin (there I go agin) it's the compressor's fault.

I mean it's all good. Just not blowin my skirt up above the knee as is usually the case.
And yes, definite Little Feat vibe.

I think you may be on to something there Timbo... The double tracked "head" was heavily compressed with a "Dan Armstrong Orange Squeezer"  even before mastering...  thanks for the good ears Tim...
I have an idea for a workaround...  more to come...

    Hi Frank,
Been absent from this joint for a little while and so I'm just catching up on what you've been doing and holy crap is it ever good. I did notice a bit of a jagged edge in this one at about 2.5k on the lead guitar...maybe a multiband to just clamp down on that frequency when it starts to stick up? That way you don't lose the bite entirely the way you would with an EQ, it just puts a ceiling on it. It didn't bug me on the Avantones but it did get a bit piercing at times on the Focals.

Beyond that though, the tonal balance and soundstage is just so good. And speaking of which, if you have a minute could you tell me what your bass guitar signal chain looks like? I'd take as much detail as you have time for...what instrument, effects, eq, the works.

    Really nice work

Nice one Frank. Defiantly have to agree with the Little Feet comment earlier. Also sounds a bit like some of the old Delbert McClinton I used to play. Mix is good here.

ha, "stumble into a bar"... shouldn't that be the other way around..?
I still play the occasional bar gig, just for the fun of it... problem is,,, it's just not as fun as it used to be... the big band will get together for an event, if the money's right... and we still perform for the odd charity fundraisers... unfortunately the monster U.S. Gov is killing our economy, and our band...
Thanks for the feedback James... btw, I love your new project, and web-site...
