I have X1 Producer now. I guess we can install the Strings without waiting for X2 can't we. I mean Dimention Pro and the Orchestral strings will just get recognized and picked up by X2 when X2 is installed later, right? Isn't there also more Rapture to download? I received a serial number for Rapture 1.22, although i have some version of Rapture already... I didn't see a download for Rapture 1.22, so i'm a bit confused what all we get with X2 Producer [at $119.00].

You can download the strings right now. I already had Dimension Pro 1.5 so they worked right away. I did not try the Rapture upgrade <I have rapture LE now and have not even tried it yet). I am assuming the X2 upgrade will not mess with my current installation of X1d. Cheers, Davo

underwhelmed by the strings. i almost didn't opt in for the early buy because I knew they would just be bloat on my system. Managed to crash sonar while adjusting the mod matrix attempting to get some playability out of them too. Come to think of it, does anyone actually use Dimension? It really doesnt belong in a 2012 DAW imo (sound wise and flexibility wise).

They aren't bad for a freebie...They were never going to be as good as EW or Spitfire....perfectprint

What are you talking about?

Dimension Pro is in every single one of my projects, sometimes with as many as 6/7 instances.

What do you recommend should be included in a "2012 DAW"?

CbB, Platinum, 64 bit throughout

I think its obvious that multisampled instruments and plugins made in the last couple of years sound significantly better than Dimension (released in 2007 with Sonar 7 right?). I never seem to use it, ever, and getting a new sample pack for it tonight did nothing to turn me back on to it. You seem to be getting plenty of use out of it, which answers the question I was asking. As for what I would like to see: ideally more 3rd party partnerships, like the most recent with Overloud (reverb, console, TH2). Let Cakewalk concentrate on Sonar, and let up to date plugin developers add the icing.

I see Dimension as a pretty darn good source of stock sounds and instruments. It's easy to find a serviceable bass sound, string sound, piano sound, etc. Is it the best at any one type of sound - no. But there's a lot there to get you started. I consider it a pretty good freebee. Beyond Dimension and Rapture, you really are going to be catering to very specific tastes, so it would be hard to satisfy everyone anyway. I think the current package is pretty good.

The suspencse is killing you guys. I hope it'll last! ;-) LOL!

It won't. There will be a mad dash to get it downloaded and the ensuing fallout from those who have trouble with the download. That will quickly be followed by the complaints about missing features, new features that don't work right, things in X1 that didn't get fixed, the quality of new plug-ins, and new bugs. I've been through this so many times before...  I might take a week off so I miss it this time.

The Sonar Forum yearly Sonar release cycle:

I heard a rumor that there are rumors out there. I also heard that Sonar X2 will be released this week, that Elvis is still alive, that the world ended in 1981. Can anyone confirm or deny these rumors? No wait! Never mind! I don't want to know! I'll just wait & see what happens.

How do you guys embed the video? And even "loop" it. That is cool x 10!

It's a brand new and exciting technology we like to call "the animated gif".  Actually, it's not so new and once upon a time it was pretty much the only way to put a "video" on the interweb.

3 Questions to Ponder:
How many people participated in the Pre-Sale?
Of those people, how many are going to be sitting by their computers tonight waiting for the minute the download link is made available?
And will the servers be able to handle the (quite potentially) massive load?

Now I want you all to keep in mind that I am a registered Software Junkie, and I'm really jonesin' for this fix (man). So I would appreciate it if you all could just wait until my download is complete until you start yours.
Am I serious? No.
Am I pathetic? Depends on who you ask.
Do I have a life? Music and software are my life (oh I do have a wife and kids, and I think a few pets, they fit in there somewhere) ;)

As mentioned above, they are just animated gif files. You can't actually embed a 'real' video in your posts.

And it's really easy to make your own (like my current avatar) - there's even a free bit of software available: Microsoft Gif Animator.

Not a chance... This is based on at least 10 years of experience. I don't think this is any different than any other software release. This is normal.

Re:Rumor: Sonar X2 to be released Friday of this week! 2012/09/20 02:04:58 (permalink)
Well here it is almost 1:00 am Thursday morning and no release for X2 is available. The presale is over. The only thing on cakewalks site is an announcement saying the Presale is over and X2 will be here soon. I don't think you can predict a date for release based upon when the presale ends.

The only thing Cakewalk said for sure was that it would be available sometime at the end of September and that we would have 24 hours before it is released to the general public. There are 30 days in September and today is the 20th. So that means anytime in the next 9 days it will be available for download.

It may not even be available until sometime next week. We don't know for sure. All we know is sometime in the next 9 days..........

Relax! it will be here when it gets here. So lets start a pool based on the release date. That is a good way to pass the time, lets see...put 5 bucks down for the 25th.
