Runnig 32-bit X1 under Windows 7 64-bit

Is it possible to install and run the 32-bit version of X1 under a 64-bit version of Windows 7?  If this can be done, do all the usual 32-bit VSTs, etc. still work?  Or is this just either impossible or very unwise.  I've searched for a concise answer to this question in many places, but I've come up empty.

In a slightly different vein, I'd be happy to install 64-bit everything so long as there is at least one really good reverb that comes with X1 Producer that would still work.  I'm not sure PerfectSpace will work.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.  I'd like to get to 64- bit across the board if I can do it and not lose big chunks of function - especially a decent, bundled reverb.

Regards,

Yes you can install SONAR 32 bit on a 64 bit OS like WIN 7
Yes all your 32 bit plugins will be available as they don't need to be 64 bot while ever the host (SONAR) is 32 bit.

It's when you move to a 64 bot host that you can start having issues with 32 bot applications.

many of us run both SONAR 64 and 32 bit in parallel without issue just for those few occassions when a 32 bit plugin just wont work in the 64 bot SONAR.

the files the programs create are no different you just need to take care to allow SONAR to install to its default location and take care how you manage your 64 bit and 32 bit plugins.

I am trying to use Kontakt Native Instruments 32 bit on a 64 bit Sonar X1...and always get the error called 'teleport server error' when trying to use it as a synth via Sonar DAW. However Kontakt as a stand alone application works fine...Would you know how to fix this?

Also if you install the 32bit and 64bit versions to the same PC...when you open Sonar X1...how would the system know whether i want to open the 32 bit or the 64bit version?

Native Instruments makes 64 bit plugins if you can get those.

Also, I was getting the Teleport crash until I turned off Data Execution Prevention. This was quite possibly an iLok issue which NI doesn't use, but it's worth a shot.

To disable Data Execution Prevention (DEP) for Vista or Windows7:

    - Open the system properties (from Control Panel, or Start->right-click on Computer->Properties)
    - Click the "Advanced System Settings" link in the left sidebar.
    - Select the Advanced Tab
    - In the "Performance" region select "Settings"
    - Click the "Data Execution Prevention" tab in the Performance Settings box
    - Select "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only"
    - Click "Apply"
    - Click "OK"
    - Reboot your system.

To change Data Execution Prevention (DEP) for Win XPsp2+:

    - Click "Start"
    - Select "Settings > Control Panel>System and Maintenance
    - Select "System"
    - Click the "Advanced" tab
    - In the "Performance" region select "Settings"
    - Click the "Data Execution Prevention" tab in the dialog box
    - Select "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only"
    - Click "OK"
    - Reboot your system.

I've got both Sonar X1 32 and 64 installed and working perfectly on my Win7 system.  You have to spend time organizing your plug-in locations and make sure the scan folders are setup properly.

To open either Sonar X1 32 or 64 just type Sonar at the Win7 start prompt.  It will automatically list Sonar and Sonar 64 for you to choose.  When you pick one, you can "pin" it to the task bar for future use.

I don't use Sonar 32 anymore - just 64.  And Perfectspace runs fine in Sonar64.

Win 7 x64 question related to this thread:

My default program for opening Sonar projects is the 32 bit version.  I have tried to change it to the 64 bit version with Set Default Programs (not listed) and have tried to change it with the Open With.... option after right clicking the file (after navigating to the SONARPDR located C:\Program Files\Cakewalk\SONAR X1 Producer, it still opens with the 32 bit version).  Everything works fine if I open the 64 bit version and navigate to the file.  I noticed that the 32 and 64 bit versions of the .exe are both SONARPDR.EXE.  Any ideas how to set the default program to the 64 bit version?
I appreciate any help with this minor, but growing, nuisance.
