Running Sonar with an M-Box

Hey guys and girlz,
I have seen here before that you can indeed run Sonar with an M Box successfully.I have a friend that i have 'converted' and would like a 'walkthru' on how to actually get Sonar to 'see' the m-box.He successfully downloaded the digi driver, which we duly installed but still no joy.Any help appreciated,Best,Antz

    Hi,

Mine worked out of box in the following way:

    1. Installed Protools Le in normal manner from the disk
    2. Updated to latest free version. 6.4 for me. In this installation asio driver installs itself by default.
    If not:
    3. Download and install latest Digidesign asio driver
    http://www.digidesign.com/download/asio/

    From url above:
Who Should Not Use This Download?
If you have one of these systems, do not install the ASIO Driver 6.1.1 from this download:
    * If you have Pro Tools LE 6.4 or 6.7 software installed, you should use the ASIO driver that can be installed as an option during Pro Tools LE installation. (checked by default)
    * If you have Pro Tools 6.4 or 6.7 TDM software installed, you should use the version of the ASIO driver that can be installed as an option during Pro Tools installation (checked by default).
    * Pro Tools LE 6.1 users should install the ASIO Driver from their Pro Tools 6.1 CD.
    * Pro Tools TDM 6.1 & 6.2 users should install the ASIO Driver from their Pro Tools 6.x CD.

From sonar config mbox from menu Options->Audio

    Good luck

Hi Haxu, thanks for your reply,he did indeed have 6.7 installed, however Sonar did not 'see' the m-box in options-audio-etc.SO.... we downloaded the asio 6.1.1 digi driver but still no joy,so as you can see,we dont really know where to go next,Thanks,Antz

    Hi,

Go to Options-Audio-Advanced and see if "Playback and Recording" driver mode dropdown now has asio. Select that and then go back to General tab to select mbox asio for both timing masters. If not...

    1. My co-pilot here says that try installing Protools and drivers first as described in the Digidesign manual.

    2. Then re-install Sonar and start it.

    And then again
    3. Go to Options-Audio-Advanced and see if "Playback and Recording" driver mode dropdown now has asio. Select that and then go back to General tab to select mbox asio for both timing masters.

No other ideas. Sorry. As I said no problems here when it was done by the book.

Best of luck and nerves of steel

SONAR works fine with the Digi ASIO driver. It's a nice combination actually, if you can get past the general weakness of Digi's driver architecture itself. For me, the quality of the MBox audio makes it worth the hassle of dealing with the driver.

I used to use cakewalk , turned to protools LE and went back to cakewalk recently. I was able to use the ASIO driver and it sounds great.

I have a problem with the Metronome settings though: Anyone know how to get the metronome to sound through the MBOX instead of your regular pc soundcard?

Make sure you're using the internal metronome, not the external/MIDI metronome ... ? Metronome seems to work fine here.

I can't go below 1024 without it starting to pop and click. If I'm really stressing the CPU, sometimes I have to go as high as 2048, but then again I'm on a laptop so that might have something to do with it, I dunno.

Low latency is not the MBox's strong point. The sound quality is what does it for me, especially the preamps. OMG they sound fine.
