What bothers me is that CW has to deal with those that seem to want to shut down CW. Yet true requests for real improvements have to get sidetracked just to answer the ones that have a nasty agenda.

How much effort is being spent to track down the ones that want to hurt CW?

I'm sorry, but I don't buy this at all John - it doesn't make any sense.

Why would anyone, who lays out hundreds of dollars/pounds for a software product, then want to "hurt" the company that made it, or want them to "shut down"?

Unless, of course (and this is the 400lb gorilla in the room) they are dissatisfied with the product, and/or they get the feeling that nothing is being done to address their issues.

Who are these people? I've seen quite a few guys expressing genuine concerns about SONAR, but they're not criticising Cakewalk and their products on a whim. Or for a bit of mindless fun, if you will.

If, as has already been mentioned, they have not followed the correct/official procedure for reporting bugs and/or contacting technical support, then they should receive little sympathy. But most of the people who have been critical have followed these procedures - to the letter. They end up being so frustrated when they perceive that nothing is being done (or can be done, short of an update) that I believe their venting is justified to some extent.

Sure, if there are spies in the camp from other DAWs who are deliberately spreading malicious falsehoods then yes, weed them out and send them packing. But I know for a fact there are a couple of guys - one specifically who got banned for what he said in a Private Message (some "Privacy" eh?) - who all they ever wanted was for the software they paid for to work for them.

John
I must say I am depressed to hear that anyone would PM to advise people to switch DAWs.

We don't need the membership to become actively involved in policing the forum but I think we do need to be a little more on guard.

I thought Private Messages were er..... 'Private'?

And yes, I fully realise that the PM system is a privilege of this forum - but what next, is somebody going to get banned because someone reports the contents of an email they get sent?

That's a slippery slope for sure.

Did you read Ryan's post?

Here is the part I was referring to.  " I've had to ban some people for doing this. People who weren't even posting publicly, but through private messages to new members trying to sway them to buy other products instead." What do you think would motivate someone to do that?

Plus you assume that all the people on here have a legitimate copy of Sonar. Why would you think that?

We have people that are here for various reasons not all of which are benign. Its not our job to seek them out but we also need to be careful that we don't offer them reason for posting and succor.

I have seen a lot of mischief with devotees of other systems and well as software trying hard to recruit. It was more obvious in the past but it still goes on.

The reason I find the use of the PM system to subvert this forum so awful is just what you seem unable to understand. Being a private message I always looked upon them as personal. Now because the abuse of some they can never be seen that way again.  Sure I knew CW had the right to take a look at them but I never thought anyone would be so underhanded in using them in such a way.

BTW Steve you have been a good friend for a long time and I do not forget the many good things you have done for me and others.

Best
John

Mr. Munnis maybe try to remind others that Cakewalk isn't some gigantic corporation and that there are real human beings behind the scenes working long hours to make what we believe to be one of the best products on the market for an extremely fair cost.

+1
Chuckebaby I wish everyone here happiness and joy.

I would add that my purpose for participating in the forum isn't just to get personal fixes. I put my oar in and try to help some folks so I can rub elbows with the serious talent in town. I'm grateful for all I've learned here, both when I was actively trying to solve my own problem or when I was trying to solve someone else's problem.

For the sake of sanity, I'm going to close this thread so we can move on. I know that people want to express opinions and perhaps are wondering about some of the content of my posts. All I can say is there is a bigger picture to the stories on some of the specific details I didn't elaborate much on. On the subject of PMs... things were brought to my attention forcing me to react. I'm not going to elaborate on some of the cases but do want to say this... TRUST me neither myself nor anyone else at Cakewalk has the time to sit around reading people's personal messages. It's no interest of mine. I have much better things to do.

On the subject of raising legitimate concerns, yes many people have and I'm trying my best to communicate it didn't fall on deaf ears. These customers, reports, expressions are not the ones I'm personally worried about in the least bit.

Anyhow guys I locked the previous threads because all I can do right now is continue to ask people to be civil to each other, to Cakewalk, and to as best as they can have patience while we bake some new desserts.

Everyone in this thread has been respectful and civil, and I thank everyone for that... but even still the existence of this thread is just an invitation to discuss yet again topics that really don't need to keep continuing at the moment. We're spending too much time talking about drama (myself included).

I want to wish everyone a wonderful weekend, safety, happiness with their families, and hopefully a productive and musical weekend with as minimal hiccups as possible.
