S5 and dual monitors?

Hey all,

So, previously on S3 I was able to enable floating and take, say, the piano roll view over to the second monitor. I'm in S5 right now and I've opened up the piano roll view, enabled floating, but it won't let me drag it over the second monitor. I have the synth rack over there, so I can bring SOME stuff over there. Am I missing something?

thanks
m

    Works for me...

I am now using the TAB view though... All I did was disable tabbed mode and then re-enable floating mode on the PRV => all good...

Sounds like you are trying to drag a maximised window. Double-click on the PRV title bar and try again.

Wicked, you might have to take SONAR's main application window out of Full Size or Maximized mode.

Double-click on SONAR's main title bar (or click on the Maximize Down button... middle one of the three buttons in the top right). Now you can stretch that main window right across your two monitors. This enables you to move and resize any child window (PRV, Mixer, etc.) in your second monitor. I like that if you now double-click on that child window, it'll maximize in the second monitor. And stuff.

    Best regards,
    John

Yeah but it didn't do that when I had S3, I had Sonar maximized in one monitor and I could enable floating and drag windows over to the second one. And it works now for everything but the piano roll. I enabled floating for the piano roll, which by this point all the windows were tiled. When I brought up the piano roll like always, instead of popping up over in monitor #2, it tiled the windows and appeared in the main window. Okay, but once I enabled floating I couldn't drag it over to the second monitor. Strange....

Yes, it is strange. I just learned the trick about "enable floating" today and it does work just fine for me with the piano roll view.

I have the main app window maximized on monitor 1. then I selected a midi track hit the PRV mode button up top (although my PRV wasn"t maximized at this point) I just clicked the upper left corner selected "enable floating" and dragged it across to my 2nd monitor. Once there I could maximize it or tile it to my hearts desire.

John C - I used to operate like that until just today when I was following this link (check it out):

It didn't start out about dual monitors but just keep reading.

Thanks, songsmyth. But I think Jesse's got it wrong. I've asked him to confirm. You can't resize any windows that are "maximized". Otherwise I have the same config with the dual monitors. Let me know if you're onto something that I'm missing.

    Regards,

Okay, I got it working. Not sure exactly what was up with it, but I opened the view via the toolbar instead of double-clicking on a clip, and it let me Enable Floating. It also had the Enable Tabbed option, which was unchecked obviously, and then I was able to drag it over. Weird.
