S5P - DXi vs VSTi?

Hi

I have just installed Sonar 5 PE and have been feeling my way around it.

I was concerned about BFD not loading up the correct channels when used as a VSTi and sure enough it loaded the kit pieces into stereo channels (1 piece on left channel, another in right). I installed the DXi version and it works fine.

This got me thinking though and my question is this......

In Sonar 5, is it better to use DX or VST? Are there performance stability issues/benefits with either? I haven't installed the DX versions of any other plugs but the option is there with the majority of them I think.

    In Sonar, I always go for the DXi version if I have a choice. If that does not work well, then I'll try the VSTi. Same for FX plugs. The answer I guess is it depends on the plugin and the host. Whichever one works best is the one you should use.

    Thanks for the reply Boogie.

    I would imagine that using DX in versions up until v6 would be better seeing as there is additional wrapper code to go through but I wasn't sure if this was right.

    It really depends on the plugin. Over all DX is better if it is written well. Also DX is fully documented VST is not. Plus Microsoft is unlikely to discard this format anytime soon or make it unavailable to third party developers. After saying that I find no problems using VSTs with Sonar. In the end I prefer DX if I can get a pulgin in that format. If it works well what ever the format then use it.
