S8 - Idiosyncracy with FF800 - ANSWER found

I thought I was Going Mad. Every time I launch Sonar my Analog in 1 on my Fireface goes to 0 Volume. Even though Faders 1 & 2 Are linked it only drops Analog 1 to zero volume? I tried both 64bit S8 and 32Bit S8 Both do it. I tried disabling the Fireface Midi input in S8 and also tried to analyse any incoming midi messages (Sysex, CC's etc) that might be causing it. It doesn't seem to be Midi but rather internal code somewhere between S8 and the Fireface driver

I then tried S7 (7.02/.03) and that doesn't do it?? Which to me is the correct behaviour

Does anyone else's Fireface 800 behave like this?

PS: I have the Latest Firmware and drivers loaded for Vista 64

I'm using the latest ASIO drivers and firmware for the FF800 in Windows XP, XP x64 and Vista x64 and don't see this behaviour in either the 32 or 64 bit version of Sonar. (I do however have the same "reset to 16-bit" thing trying to use WASAPI that you reported in the other thread).

    Sorry.

Isn't this that 'zero controllers on stop' or whatever it's called feature?. This is a right pain if enabled. Can't remember the exact name for it but I wonder if that's what's causing it.

No it's not that, if it reset all the faders to Zero I could understand but it only resets Analog 1? And Sonar 7 Doesn't do it or any previous version of Sonar or Pro Audio.

Noel posted about this issue in another thread and it is connected with what aj suggested in his post. There's a fix in 8.01 for those affected. I have an FF800 and SONAR 8 and it doesn't do it to me

Thanks Mike. I will search for it. I have asked on the RME forum as well, see what happens

when SONAR launches you will see the fader for channel one reset to zero. This is incorrect and has been addressed for the next update. The problem only impacts ASIO 1.0 devices. ASIO 2.0 compliant devices are not affected by this problem which is why it only affected some devices and not others.

Fortunately there is a very simple workaround that you can use in the interim until the update is released. In the RME Mixer there is a menu option to disable ASIO Direct Monitoring. If you disable this SONAR will not set the fader for channel one to zero. This will not impact any other features of your soundcard other than direct monitor support for applications.
Alternatively you can just set the mixer fader back to unity gain.

Thanks Mike I found it. I'm just puzzled that it says it only happens with ASIO 1 Devices. FF800 isn't exactly ASIO 1 is it??
