S8.5 ---> can't find Session Drummer 3

Win 7 x64 RTM, Sonar 8.5 x64

Session Drummer 3 does not show up under Insert -> Soft Synths -> <list of soft synths>  Session Drummer 2 does, however.

I've done the basic install (no problems) then, in an attempt to get Session Drummer 3, resorted to custom install with no difference. (Session Drummer 3 install option is checked).

I'm obviously missing something fundamental here.  I have been away from Cakewalk for some months now and find yet another learning curve getting back in the groove - so to speak.

Respectfully,
Josh

Scan your Vst plug-ins in the plug-in manager, young fella

In some parts of the programme  - it is referred to as Session Drummer

That was not done to be unhelpful
It was merely done to confuse a few people.

You might have to look for the SD3 .dll and make sure that the path where it's installed is a path checked by your VST scanner.

It's all in the manual........

CbB, Platinum, 64 bit throughout
Custom built i7 3930, 32Gb RAM, 2 x 1Tb Internal HDD, 1 x 1TB system SSD (Win 7), 1 x 500Gb system SSD (Win 10), 2 x 1Tb External HDD's, Dual boot Win 7 & Win 10 64 Bit, Saffire Pro 26, ISA One, Adam P11A,

OK ... went to Cakewalk Plug-in Manager x64 ---> then to VST Instruments (VSTi) ---> SessionDrummer2 is there but no reference to SessionDrummer3.

Scanned for VST Plug-ins - no change - did Options and there were 3 paths there - tried all - still to no avail. Thanks for your help, though. It does sound like a path problem.

I'm reading the manual about SD3.dll ... gotta go piano lesson.
Later & respectfully,
Josh

edit: I see you scanned. I edited this after dantars post below but if you do a windows search of -

SessionDrummer.dll - it will let you know if it's there and where it is.

The Session Drummer 3 dll is named "SessionDrummer.dll".  (Note the complete and utter lack of a number "three".)  It will show up in the Cakewalk Plug-in Manager under VST Instruments (VSTi) as "SessionDrummer" (that is if it exists in your VST scan path somewhere).  The default SONAR install will put this dll in a "Cakewalk\Session Drummer 3" directory under your VST path.

Please note that all of this is true for 32 bit installations.  Please note further that I don't know beans about what happens in a 64 bit install, so the information here may end up being entirely inapplicable to your installation.

S8.5 ---> can't find Session Drummer 3 2009/09/23 14:56:11 (permalink)
Thanks to strikinglyhandsome1 & dantarbill for pointing me in the right direction.

The S8.5 install program put this on my C: (SSD) drive - along with a lot of other stuff.  I have all my Sonar stuff on its own dedicated drive (E:) - I have never used C: before for my music programs (except what Sonar insists something has to be on C:).

My directory structure is SO bizzare with so many levels (ie. E:\Cakewalk\Vstplugins\Vstplugins\ ... don't know how I messed up so badly having the VSTplugins directory twice. I cut and copied the stuff from my C: directory to E:.

I'm going to reinstall everything when I receive Win 7 so I'll put up with it for now and then just reinstall everything.

THANK YOU for pointing me in the right direction!  It was very much appreciatred.  Oh what a tangled web we weave when we try and guess where to install everything!

Respectfully,
Josh
Oh, I forgot - It shows up as Session Drummer X64 - not Session Drummer 3.
